The Assistant Director of Resident Student Retention is responsible for leading, organizing, executing, and managing the department’s resident student retention efforts. The primary goal of this position is to help co-create a cohesive and inclusive residential program that utilizes diversity and social justice practices to promote student success and to support students. The Assistant Director of Resident Student Retention provides leadership in the areas of resident student retention efforts, resident student communication and concern management, and resident student outreach on behalf of the Campus Assessment, Response, and Evaluation (CARE) Team. This position is responsible for coordinating the department’s housing occupancy retention-related marketing plan and overseeing large-scale departmental outreach efforts. The Assistant Director of Resident Student Retention is a front-line responder to on-campus emergencies, serves in rotation as an administrator on-call and is required to work in-person, daytime and non-traditional hours including nights and weekends.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Reports to the Associate Director of Housing Operations and Assignments.SUPERVISION EXERCISED:Provides supervision to graduate or hourly employee staff.

This is an APA position and is subject to the terms of that union agreement.

Essential Duties:

1. Provide general day to day management and oversight of Residence Life and Housing (RLH) communication forms, CARE Team reports related to residence hall students and other reports pertaining to resident students in need of support.2. Develop and implement departmental training programs for residence life personnel, including paraprofessional and professional fall and spring training sessions and in-service training programs pertaining to student retention efforts, resources, and best practices.3. Serve as the RLH customer service point of contact for students, families, and campus partners for difficult matters when resident student retention may be impacted.4. Serve as one of the Residence Life & Housing representatives to the university’s CARE Team.5. Plan and implement assessment efforts that inform data driven decision making, including but not limited to student feedback solicitation, administering the ACUHO-I benchmarking survey, and other data collection as related to retaining students and maintaining residence hall occupancy.6. Oversee outreach efforts and referrals to campus resources for resident students that are in danger of or do not qualify to live on campus based on their course registration status.7. Establish and maintain positive relationships with personnel in other university departments.8. Create and implement skill and competency building initiatives for Residence Life & Housing staff pertaining to student retention and practices that promote and equitable and just experience for all resident students.9. Coordinate the creation of marketing and communication plans for all large-scale housing occupancy and retention-related initiatives.10. Assist with the regular updating and maintenance of RLH’s website and social media platforms as it pertains to housing occupancy and retention-related content.11. Assist with the review and maintenance of the standard operating procedures manual(s), policies and procedural handbooks for residence life personnel with a focus on equity and promoting student retention.12. Assist with the preparation of the Residence Hall portion of the Student Handbook13. Liaison with students, family members, and other constituents on issues related to residence life.
Other Duties: 1. Serve in the Administrator on-call rotation as assigned.2. Represent the Director and/or department at meetings as assigned.3. Attend all staff meetings and professional development sessions and assist with projects and initiatives as assigned by the Director of Residence Life and Housing or the Division of Student Life.4. Serve as a chair/co-chair of a departmental committee and serve as a member of other departmental and divisional committees, task forces or projects as assigned by the Director of Residence Life and Housing or designee.5. Support and attend University events and programs (For example: Admitted Students Day events, Admissions Open House events, Homecoming Day events, Commencement, etc.).6. Provide written reports (i.e., monthly reports, assessment reports and end of the year reports) and summaries as requested by Residence Life and Housing and/or the Division of Student Life.7. Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

1. Bachelor’s Degree Required.2. Two years of post-baccalaureate experience in student affairs/student personnel work.3. Supervisory experience.4. Ability to work with a diversity of people, thoughts, perspective, and practices; demonstrated commitment to valuing diversity and inclusion.6. Experience developing and designing professional development programs.7. Ability to use and learn computer programs, including data management tools.8. Ability to execute professional communication in written and oral forms.9. Ability to adapt to changing priorities.10. Customer service experience serving diverse constituents.

Preferred Qualifications:

1. Master’s Degree.2. Demonstrated experience working with StarRez housing management software and Maxient student behavior records software.3. Demonstrated experience working with program evaluation, outcomes assessment, and student data evaluation.4. Ability to create creative marketing and communication materials.
