Full-Time Assistant Director of Development
Job Description
Position Summary
The Assistant Director of Development will play a key role in developing and implementing the strategic fundraising plan to increase individual and institutional giving. This role will manage and supervise daily operations of individual and institutional giving programs, including project and relationship management. Also, build a pipeline of major donors through the annual fund, assisting with social media strategies, and coordinating special fundraising events. The Assistant Director of Development must be a collaborative and entrepreneurial leader who can support the fundraising team through a uniquely challenging time. This role will report to the Director of Development.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
Individual Giving
- Direct all facets of the Annual Fund to ensure that its objectives are established and met. Implement strategies and action plans that ensure the success of reaching annual fund goals.
- Help develop acquisition, renewal, and upgrade strategies for donors.
- Conceptualize, write, and edit annual giving stewardship messages/campaigns for direct mail, email, and social media.
- Manage direct mail, email, and social media projects with vendors and internal constituents from concept to completion.
- Participate in all aspects of the gift cycle, moving potential donors in an appropriate and timely way toward solicitation closure and ongoing stewardship
- Identify potential prospects independently, and in partnership with Board and donors:
- Develop appropriate engagement strategies, including working with volunteers
- Support staff and volunteer leadership best positioned to make contact with the prospect or make contact directly
- Prepare proposal and presentation materials
- Participate in solicitations when appropriate
Institutional Giving
- Create systems, processes, and policies for the corporate giving program to build Lookingglass’ revenue and expand our visibility.
- Steward existing institutional partners and identify and cultivate new corporate sources of funding.
- Prepare and present personalized partnership/sponsorship packages to existing and prospective institutional partners.
- Working with the Director of Development and key internal stakeholders, create a portfolio of institutional engagement opportunities that align with Lookingglass’ mission and strategic goals, including the strategy and marketing materials for these engagement opportunities.
Development Operations
- Provide monthly reports to the Director of Development on individual and institutional giving progress against goals.
- Assist with setting annual and multi-year goals for donor and institutional relations and events.
- Assist and manage pre-event planning, day-of-event logistics, and post-event responsibilities
- Coordinate invitation lists and mailings, maintain guest lists, gather and prepare registration materials, and perform other duties as assigned for fundraising events.
Organizational
- Participates in organization-wide anti-racism work and incorporate an anti-racist lens into daily practice. Qualifications
- Minimum of 5 years of direct fundraising and/or sales experience
- Familiarity with the Chicagoland theatre and philanthropic community strongly preferred
- Proficient with Microsoft Word and Excel, and experience with fundraising software, such as Spektrix, and project management software, such as Asana, is a plus
- Excellent written and oral communication skills with demonstrated presentation abilities.
- Demonstrated ability to be detail-oriented along with awareness of how the successful management of each task contributes to Lookingglass’ ability to fulfill its mission
- High level of professional demeanor and utmost sensitivity with confidential information.
- Willingness to work evening and weekends as necessary
- Ability, and comfort, in analyzing, creating, and dismantling systems for solving problems and increasing efficiency
- Ability to work in a hybrid workplace
Compensation
Compensation: $70,000-75,000

- Health Insurance (choice of PPO or HMO; Organization covers the cost of 95% of the HMO plan. If a PPO plan is elected, staff members pay the difference between the PPO plan and 95% of the HMO plan. This is reevaluated annually in June with the adoption of the health plan.
