Founded in 2014, the Northeastern University College of Engineering’s Michael J. and Ann Sherman Center for Engineering Entrepreneurship Education strives to be an inclusive entrepreneurship community providing personalized experiential-education to all NU innovators. This donor-funded and college-supported center provides formal course instruction, early-stage venture-founder support, a unique venture-creation co-op, product-development education, and a variety of student and community-led initiatives for students, faculty, staff, and alumni.
The Sherman Center’s M.S. in Product Development (PD) Program is seeking to fill an Associate Director/Teaching Faculty role that will be located on our Boston campus. In this role, the Associate Director/Teaching Faculty will have the challenge and opportunity to direct and grow this new master’s program. To aid in this effort, this position is a key member of the Sherman Center’s leadership council and faculty board. This role works closely with College of Engineering academic leadership and academic leaders across the global campus portfolio.
The selected candidate’s duties will be divided between teaching and administration, specifically program facilitation, and program development. They will be expected to teach, advise, develop, and implement course schedules, as well as identify new and trending industry subjects for curriculum development. Additionally, the Associate Director/Teaching Faculty will oversee and manage various administrative functions of the program.
Candidates should be committed to fostering diverse and inclusive environments as well as to promoting experiential learning. The ideal candidate for this role will have a terminal credential in a related engineering, design, or business-related field, 5+ years of experience in product development, startups, higher education and/or a relevant engineering field, experience with academic programs and diverse student populations, and a demonstrated ability to problem solve and manage multiple responsibilities concurrently.

The duties associated with this role include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Instruct and prepare students to improve relevance, rigor, and quality through teachings and course offerings
- Lead the student recruitment and management of the program
- Develop plans to achieve programmatic goals and implement solutions specific to the programmatic expansion to NU regional campuses
- Oversee program marketing and communication strategy with university and third-party marketing teams
- Implement a program improvement process via measurement and feedback
- Work in coordination with other units in the college and the Registrar’s Office to schedule courses that meet the needs of students and related programs
- Market, recruit, and manage other public relations activities for program
- Contribute to the recruitment and hiring of full-time and part-time faculty
- Develop and implement program to enhance the quality of the student experience: manage processes, outreach, content, and finances
- Manage course development related to coordination and administrative functions
- Work to define and enforce policies and procedures associated with the supported program
- Counsel students on academic advising and other academic matters
- Responds to teacher and student inquiries
- Oversee and manage regional relationships with academic partner staff
- Interpret and communicate local and University policies and procedures for students, faculty, and staff
Successful candidates will be expected to teach four core or elective courses per year in the MS program in Product Development. A reduced load can be negotiated to take on more administrative responsibility.
A PhD in a related engineering field is required by the appointment start date. The ideal candidate for this role will have a terminal credential in a related engineering, design, or business-related field, and a demonstrated ability to problem solve and manage multiple responsibilities concurrently. For associate and full professor rank, 5+ years of experience in product development, startups, higher education and/or a relevant engineering field, experience with academic programs and diverse student populations.
We are seeking an experienced professional, capable of independently leading program development, management, and performing a diverse range of academic support and management functions. A preferred candidate will have experience with: academic program design; managerial principles and practices; program planning principles; program coordination principles, practices, and techniques; troubleshooting and solving complex program issues; diverse populations and cultures.
The ideal candidate will also have relevant industry experience and/or research program in the following areas such as: software engineering, algorithm design and analysis, machine learning/AI, application engineering, cloud technologies, Blockchain, Big Data technologies/platforms, and other.
This position is new and will requires leadership, initiative, innovation, problem-solving skills, as well as the ability to make independent judgements. A demonstrated ability to handle multiple responsibilities concurrently, work independently in a fast-paced and dynamic environment, and experience in working with international students are required of the position.
Additionally, a demonstrated ability or potential for teaching excellence is required, but we will consider fresh PhDs. Rank of appointment at the Assistant Teaching Professor, Associate Teaching Professor, or Full Teaching Professor level will be determined based on prior experience and will be discussed with candidates during the interview process.
