Job Description

Perkins Coie LLP has an immediate opening for an Applications Analyst. The ideal candidate will serve as a key member of the Application Services Team, which is responsible for administration, support, and maintenance of software applications and databases.

Essential Functions:

Administration: Create, maintain, and follow documented procedures to complete application or system level changes and upgrades. Administer the environment through user account management, file/directory management, and scheduled job management. Use a central repository to manage information related to assigned applications.

Maintenance: Monitor the health of applications using established tools and procedures. Troubleshoot applications problems for end users by providing Level 2 and 3 support. Initiate timely corrective actions where possible. Verify that appropriate, documented backup and disaster recovery procedures are followed.

Test & Deployment: Analyze applications for deployment. Create and review test scripts, follow established test plans, and perform tests to ensure successful deployment of application changes and upgrades. Analyze the distribution requirements for applications, and coordinate the timelines and packages required to meet those requirements.

Application Analysis: Work directly with end users to identify and map systems capabilities to business needs. Assume a liaison role between vendors and end users, translating technical specifications for end users and business requirements for vendors.

End User Support: Monitor, log, and record all activities using the appropriate ticketing system. Perform and record status updates to all assigned tickets per Systems Department guidelines. Provide cross training for other analysts to ensure appropriate Level 2 and 3 coverage for assigned applications. Provide backup Level 2 and 3 support for other analysts.

Documentation:  Create drawings and written materials to document design, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting procedures. Working assistance from the Manager of Business-line Applications:

Configuration: Within the existing infrastructure framework, determine the appropriate settings for proper implementation of new applications. Recommend adjustments to existing infrastructure for upgrades and new versions of software.

Design: Working within the existing infrastructure framework, define new uses for the existing components to provide additional functionality to the user community. Create design specifications to provide all appropriate implementation details for new applications.

Coaching: Serve as a mentor and role model for junior Applications Analysts.

Required Skills:

• Advanced understanding of technical design and usage of applications used within law firms, such as document automation software, document management software, and productivity tools (specifically, Microsoft 365 Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
• Working knowledge of networking in a Microsoft Windows environment including client/server and web technologies. Knowledge level must be appropriate for both Level 2 troubleshooting and administration of applications.
• Ability to read, understand, and apply technical documentation. Ability to provide input to Level 3 and produce a summary of the appropriate factors that need to be considered when assessing the viability of new applications or a change to an existing application within the Perkins Coie environment.
• Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with users and peers and work effectively in a team environment.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Excellent customer service and negotiation skills.
• Ability to exercise good judgment in prioritizing multiple tasks and addressing problems under time and resource constraints.
• Self-starter, strong time management skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to quality.

Education & Experience:
Requires a minimum of 4+ years of related Applications Support or Analysis experience. A Bachelor’s Degree in engineering or computer science is beneficial. Formal training and education in computer systems and databases is highly desirable.
