Apparel Technical Designer/Product Developer

 

Position Description:

The Apparel Technical Designer/Product Developer builds and maintains all patterns files and technical specifications, following brand fit, construction and quality standards for all categories. Responsible to assist and support all functions of the Senior Technical Designer and own the development process of assigned styles.

This is a part-time position (2-3 days per week), with the potential to become full-time within 6-12 months.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Build Spec Packages including pattern and complete specifications for all Inline and Custom (sublimated) products for Development Team, ensuring delivered in accurate and timely manner, utilizing Optitex and Centric PLM system.
  • Build and maintain accurate BOMs, ownership of selected styles as needed.
  • Manage CAD Apparel Pattern Library for all Inline and Custom products, including retaining grade standard for all Brand fit categories. Create new models (patterns) as needed for Custom category, including grading necessary. Convert pattern files as needed for factory use.
  • Assist Marketing/Sales and manage Size Chart for all categories.
  • Manage daily communication with factory, mills, and trim suppliers to effectively develop product from 1st proto to final production, creating sample evaluation comments/record for all stages.
  • Coordinate Fit Model requirements, including scheduling fit sessions with Sales and Development Team. Interview potential candidates for both men and women’s product, following brand sizing and fit standards.
  • Create line art drawings or photo visuals to effectively communicate product details.
  • Support Graphics Team and vendors to export AI, PDS or .dxf pattern files as needed.
  • Support Quality Control performing spot specific or comprehensive checks of physical inventory as needed.
  • Manage Color Palette Library.
  • Request new product wear testing as needed.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally as needed.

 

 

 

 

Essential Functions:

  • Apparel pattern making and construction specific to performance fabrics and function
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Knowledge and experience with fabric, trims, garment construction, fit and the apparel product development process

Education & Work Experience Qualifications:

  • 2 years CAD Pattern Design software (Optitex preferred)
  • Bachelor’s degree in Apparel Design or related field of study
  • 2-5 years of Apparel Technical Design experience preferred
  • Knowledge of the cycling, sports and/or outdoor industries a plus
  • Computer skills: CAD, Illustrator, Microsoft, Centric PLM, Google Docs, Trello
