Health Services – Chronic Disease & Injury Prevention
Status: Contract Full Time; Duration: 16 months
Salary Range: $89,469 – $111,834 per annum, plus comprehensive benefits
Work Mode: Hybrid; 1-2 days on-site per week *see below for more details about this work mode.
Location: 7120 Hurontario St, Mississauga, ON
Hours of work: 35 hours per week
Who we are: The Chronic Disease and Injury Prevention division of Peel Public Health supports the advancement of chronic disease and injury prevention through critical program and policy analysis, monitoring and assessment of legislation, data anlysis, completion of evidence reviews, and the writing of reports/corporate communications.
In this role, you will support work to integrate urban planning and public health practices and advance healthy complete communities as a member of the Built Environment Team.
What you will do in this role:
- Monitor, identifiy, analyze and provide recommendations on trends, risks and opportunities
- Provide expert interpretation of legislation and internal policies and procedures
- Apply advanced knowledge of public health and/or technical knowledge regarding population health, social determinants of health, epidemiology and evidence-informed decision making
- Interpret and analyze complex information to provide strategic recommendations that will guide policy and programming decisions
- Analyze information to identify emerging issues and trends and incorporate relevant findings into recommendations for policy and program development
- Monitor, develop, implement and advocate for policies that will have positive population health implications
- Provide expert guidance to the program and evaluation planning process
- Ensure issues of diversity, ethnicity, language and culture are reflected in research and policy analyses
- Prepare complex and specialized documentation, reports and statistical analyses
- Synthesize complex information into a wide range of written and visual communication products such as reviews of research evidence, briefing documents, policy positions and presentations
- Prepare and deliver presentations and represent manager/director/Associate Medical Officers of Health/Medical Officer of Health at local, provincial, federal and international meetings and conferences
What the role requires:
- At least three (3) years of work experience in a Public Health setting
- A Master’s degree, preferred, in Public Health Sciences or a relevant discipline
- Combination of education and experience may be considered
- Broad knowledge of public health issues and applicable legislation
- Experience in evidence-informed decision-making methodology, project management, project leadership
- Experience with epidemiological study design and application of research evidence in practice
- Knowledge of analytical, statistical, and epidemiological methods
- Experience in policy and procedure development
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively within an interdisciplinary team setting and across organizational boundaries
- Demonstrated ability to work with a high degree of discretion and diplomacy
Skills/Abilities:
- Excellent facilitation, presentation, organizational skills, and problem-solving skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with demonstrated ability to synthesize complex information for a variety of audiences
- Strong research (with knowledge of qualitative and quantitative research methods) and analytical skills
- Well-developed report writing skills
- Demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion through continuous development, modeling inclusive behaviors, and proactively managing bias
Work Mode & Job Location: In this role, you’ll enjoy the flexibility of a hybrid work arrangement. This means you’ll have the ability to work off-site and on-site as needed, depending on operational needs at the 7120 Hurontario St, Mississauga, ON worksite. The frequency of on-site work may vary from week to week, depending on operational demands, which can evolve over time.
It’s important to note that your off-site work location must be within the province of Ontario. This ensures that we’re compliant with all regulations and policies.
