Full-Time Analyst, Merchant Monitoring (Early Career)

recruiting@legitscript.com – Posted by recruiting@legitscript.com Portland, Oregon, United States

Job Description

At LegitScript, we are passionate about making the internet and payment ecosystems safer and more transparent. We help companies of all sizes keep their services legal and safe for consumers. To do this, LegitScript’s analyst team is skilled in navigating highly regulated and complex sectors, including transaction laundering detection, pharmaceuticals, online gambling, and more.

The result? Unmatched accuracy and deep risk analysis that identifies which commercial entities play by the rules, and which do not. Our diverse industry partnerships provide unique insights that keep businesses and governments at the forefront of emerging trends. That’s why LegitScript is trusted by the world’s largest search engines, internet platforms, payment companies, and regulatory agencies.

In this position as an Analyst on the Merchant Monitoring team, you will uncover merchants who are offering risky — or even illegal — products and services, and report the activity to our clients, the payment providers supporting these sales transactions.

Please be aware that, due to the nature of LegitScript’s work, an analyst in this role may encounter sensitive or offensive content while performing the requirements of the job.

We are currently looking for candidates who are local to the Portland Metro Area or in Pacific Time Zone, but this position will be remote until the pandemic subsides.

About you:

This is an entry-level position with the potential for growth within the company, and a great opportunity to develop a career in payments and risk detection. We do not expect you to have prior experience in a similar role or a related field, although it’s cool if you do! Your ability to learn will be more important than what you know already.

You might:

  • Be fresh out of college or the military

  • Have transitioned from high school straight into the workforce

  • Have held a job, or a few jobs, but are looking for a career change

You are:

  • Comfortable and confident online. You have no problem finding exactly what you’re looking for through search engines. Need to dig up a super specific piece of information within a social media platform, or navigate a not-so-user-friendly website? No problem. You can do it.

  • Fascinated by the internet, and what/how people buy and sell there. You’ve noticed that some websites don’t make any sense or don’t seem trustworthy. Maybe you watched the Dirty Money series or The Laundromat and wanted to know more about money laundering.

  • Good at thinking outside the box. You can make decisions that involve applying a set of guidelines, but you also don’t freeze up when you run into a new scenario that doesn’t fit neatly inside those rules. Being creative and resourceful is something you thrive on. (It’s totally okay if you still can’t decide what you want for dinner. We get that.)

What you’ll bring:

  • Inquisitive growth mindset (receptive to feedback, learning)

  • Efficient, resourceful time management and prioritization

  • Attention to detail

  • Clear communication (both written and verbal)

  • Insatiable curiosity and a love for problem-solving

  • Internet/computer savvy, familiarity with Excel and/or Google product suite

  • Good judgment/common sense

  • Proven, or an interest in developing, risk detection and assessment skills

  • One or more years of work experience

Nice-to-haves:

  • Writing, editing, and proofreading skills or background

  • Knowledge of e-commerce risk detection techniques and/or trends

  • Background in cyber investigations, risk management, regulatory compliance, military intelligence, criminal justice, anti-money laundering, or a similar field

  • Policy analysis experience

  • Experience managing and communicating with clients

  • Additional language proficiency

There is an expected training period (currently 90 days) for new analysts. The annual salary for this position is $46,000.

Our hiring process:

  • Screening written exercise

  • Phone screening

  • Virtual interview (Zoom)

Please note that visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

In addition to competitive salaries, full-time employees enjoy a great benefits package:

  • Multiple medical plans, dental & vision plans

  • 401k with company match and immediate vesting

  • Generous paid time off package and 11 paid holidays

  • Paid volunteer time off

  • And much more!

If you got to this point, we hope you’re feeling excited about the job description you just read. Even if you don’t feel that you meet every single requirement, we still encourage you to apply. We’re eager to meet people that believe in LegitScript’s mission and can contribute to our team in a variety of ways – not just candidates who check all the boxes.

Candidates must be authorized to work in the US. LegitScript does not offer visa sponsorship at this time. LegitScript is an Equal Opportunity Employer that abides by federal and state laws that prohibit discrimination against all individuals based on their race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, or national origin; or their status as protected veterans or individuals with disabilities.
