Temporary Analyst, Health Data
Job Description
- Perform key activities supporting Health Analytics projects and supports tactical data functions of program areas as required
- Apply data access/security practices and PHIPA compliance in performing data management, including database design and development, data structure architecting, data cleaning, data integration, and data de-identification
- Conduct data visualization (conventional, web-based and interactive), performance measurement, and statistical analysis
- Access specialized health care data sets from Health Services clients and external government and non-governmental partners and maintain health data set access requirements and credentials
- Provide and support specialized data analysis using data from widely varied sources and a variety of sophisticated software and analytical tools to help identify key insights and opportunities to help achieve health services program objectives
- Mine historical data to discover trends and patterns and support the development of algorithms to validate existing assumptions and processes
- Collaborate on the design and development of sophisticated data visualization, advanced web graphics and interactive tools to make large datasets coherent to better understand patterns and explain complex issues and results to decision-makers and partners
- Develop internal relationships with client groups to ensure Health Intelligence and Analytics solutions align with the Corporate Business Intelligence (BI) and Information Management Strategies, support interdepartmental group efforts to deliver integrated BI/Analytics solutions for clients and implement effective tools. This includes consultative work to determine, document and prioritize client needs, develop business cases, implement projects, and communicate findings
- Provide core support to design and deliver assigned projects including: conducting research and literature reviews; developing and implementing analytical methodologies; collecting, validating, staging, and processing data; and other project deliverables as assigned
- Perform Administrator functions for specialized databases. Adhere to all policies, standards, procedures and best practices within Health Services and the Region, including the following areas: Health information privacy, data integration, linkage of health information data sets, data warehousing, data quality, and data utilization
- Maintain general awareness of industry trends and best practices and apply to project work and the ongoing development of the health analytics function
- Communicate with management and various stakeholders regarding findings and analysis
- Draft and contribute to reports and prepare and deliver presentations
- Maintain collaborative and supportive working relationships with key internal and external partners and stakeholders
What the role requires:
- Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Biostatistics, Geography/Geomatics, Economics, Engineering or a Data Science related discipline
- 2-3 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Experience in advanced analytics applying descriptive and predictive analyses and modeling skills using statistical software such as R, geographic information systems (ArcGIS), text analytics tools and/or other analytical programming languages
Skills/Abilities:
- Proficiency with data visualization and dashboarding tools (e.g., Power BI, ArcGIS) and familiarity with applicable programming languages (e.g., Processing, D3, R (ggplot), Python) as well as creating custom visualizations using combinations of open source and commercial tools
- Expertise in the use of MS office tools, including Excel and Access
- Experience in data management and the creation and manipulation of databases
- Ability to synthesize, analyze, and interpret data related to health programs & services and effectively communicate both data and the results of analysis
- Strong mathematics skills
- Strong programming skills, including knowledge of VBA
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Team orientation and client focus
Nice to have:
- Familiarity with health-related and demographic data
- Public sector experience in support of diverse programs and services
Work Mode: In this role you will have the flexibility to work remotely and attend on-site when required based on operational requirements at the 7120, Hurontario St., Mississauga ON worksite. The frequency of on-site activities may vary on a weekly basis and based on operational requirements. Your remote work location must be located within the province of Ontario.
