DEC is the primary Capital Project delivery arm for design and construction projects at DEN. Location

 

The City and County of Denver supports a hybrid workplace model. Employees work where needed, at a job site several days a week and off-site as needed. In this position you can expect to work 3 days per week on site at Denver International Airport JAG Logistics Center, 26100 E 68th Avenue, Aurora, CO 80019. Employees must work within the state of Colorado on their off-site days.

 

What You’ll Do

Specific job duties will include:

  • Performs professional entry-level engineering work on small routine projects or parts of large projects under the direction of a licensed engineer.  Learns the processes, practices, and applications of design and construction project management and the principles, standards, requirements, and guidelines for plans review.
  • Confers with management to establish and maintain project plans and goals, scope of work, and project work plans including time frames, funding limitations, contract costs, risk factors, and allotment of available resources to various phases of a project. Trains in the formulation of budgets for projects including planning, design, regulatory, and construction phases.
  • Trains and becomes proficient in reviewing specifications for small projects or parts of large projects and monitoring construction projects of limited scope for compliance with design guidelines, requirements, and standards.
  • Reviews projects for compliance on code conformance with applicable codes, requirements, ordinances, and national standards, monitors the progress and quality of a project, and resolves problems and project barriers by identifying strategies and approaches to overcome barriers.
  • Assists in the preparation of pre-bid materials defining scope of work and related information necessary for Requests for Proposals (RFP), Issued for Bid (IFB), provides background information to design and/or engineering consultants and construction contractors, and responds to questions concerning the project.
  • Meets with contract and consultant personnel, internal and external project stakeholders, and other city staff to resolve problems and concerns and answer questions on non-controversial issues/projects.  Interacts with utility companies, city agencies/departments, and other governmental agencies to obtain necessary permits and clearances and to ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Tracks schedules, work plans, and cost estimates/projections and monitors projects for conformance to approved plans and contract specifications. Prepares and communicates project status reports for key stakeholders and provides updates on project activities and information on risks and mitigation strategies.
  • Monitors the budget for project planning, design, regulatory, and/or construction phases and ensures project deliverables stay on-time, on-target, and on-budget. Assists with field inspections of projects for conformance to approved plans.
  • Performs increasingly more responsible work as the employee gains experience and independently performs engineering duties.  Performs other related duties as assigned. Employees may be re-deployed to work in other capacities in their own agencies or in other City agencies to support core functions of the City during a City-wide emergency declared by the Mayor.

  • Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering
  • Strong oral and written communication skills

  • Collaboration/team oriented
  • Ability to interface and collaborate with various individuals both internal and external to the organization
  • Experience with design, planning, and/or construction (helpful, but this is trainable to the right candidate with the willingness to learn)

 

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Education requirement: Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering
  • Experience Requirement: None
  • Education/Experience Equivalency: No substitution of experience for education is permitted
  • License/Certifications: By position, requires a valid Driver’s License at the time of application
    Certification as an Engineer Intern (EI) or Engineer-in-Training (EIT) by successfully completing the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) issued by a State licensing Board by the end of probation
  • Licenses and certifications must be kept current as a condition of employment
