Job Description

Concord Recreation is seeking energetic, part time staff who enjoy leading children in fun recreational activities while providing quality care. General responsibilities include contributing to planning, and leading age-appropriate activities, and engaging in hands-on activities and games with the children. Assistant Group Leaders will assist with supervision of children grades K-5. Hours will be flexible within our schedule of Monday-Friday from 3:00P-6:00P (12:00-6:00P on Wednesdays).  Competitive wages and professional development are a bonus to the opportunity to work with a great team in an exciting and fun program. This is an opportunity to share your passions and talents (art, sports, theater, science, etc) with elementary school aged children. This is a 10-month Afterschoolschool year position following the Concord Public School calendar from late August until June. Full pay range – $15.00-17.75/hr, starting pay based on education and experience.

GENERAL SUMMARY

The Assistant Group Leader works under the supervision of the AfterSchool Group Leaders and Site Coordinators and is responsible for the nurturing and development of each child enrolled. General responsibilities include contributing to planning, and leading age-appropriate activities, and engaging in hands-on activities and games with the children. Assistant Group Leaders will assist with supervision of children grades K-5.

 

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Ability to work in a high energy environment with students grades K-5.
  • Implement curriculum, meeting the social-emotional, physical and intellectual needs of the children based on the goals, philosophy and general curriculum plan of the AfterSchool Program.
  • Create an engaging environment that fosters a sense of belonging for all students and staff.
  • Assists with the creation and implementation of weekly activity plans with support from the Site Coordinator and Group Leaders.
  • Assist with preparation of snacks, activities and other program functions. (e.g. clean-up, meal time, transitions, etc.)
  • Provide positive role-modeling, reinforcement and assists with behavior guidance when necessary.
  • Ensure the health and safety of children through constant supervision, arrangement of space, proper maintenance of equipment and knowledge of emergency procedures.
  • Facilitate interactions among children to provide opportunities for the development of physical, social, emotional, and intellectual growth.
  • Attend and participate in staff meetings and professional development training, as required by EEC and the Childcare Manager.
  • Show awareness of specific individual health plans and comply with plans, including required

training (EPI pen administration, insulin pump operation, etc.) when appropriate.

  • Exhibit knowledge about and adhere to program policies and procedures, including those for emergencies, medication administration, suspected abuse/neglect and referrals.
  • Assist with operation of the classroom/site in compliance with EEC regulations, DOE Standards and QRIS requirements.
  • Comply with personnel policies of the Town of Concord, Concord Recreation and EEC/Childcare Programs

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Ability to work in a high energy environment with students grades K-5.
  • Good written and oral communication skills.

 

RECOMMENDED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must be 16 years of age
  • Experience working with youth grades K-5.
  • Good supervisory skills; demonstrate written and oral communication skills.
  • A High School diploma or enrolled in a high school.
  • Must comply with EEC Background Records Check regulations and Professional Qualification Registry requirements.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Employee is regularly required to walk, stand, sit, talk and hear.  Uses hands to finger, handles, feels or operates objects, tools or controls and reaches with hands and arms as in picking up paper, files and other common office objects.  Employee may infrequently lift and/or move objects weighing up to 60 pounds such as tools and supplies, etc.

Operates computer, printer, video display terminal, keyboard, calculator, telephone, copier, facsimile machine and all other standard office equipment requiring eye-hand coordination and finger dexterity. Balancing, crouching, grasping, pulling, reaching and stooping may also be required.
