Full-Time Advisor, Water Resource Management

Job Description

The Advisor provides strategic advice and in-depth analysis to assess the impact to the Region of Peel Water and Wastewater business from changes on the existing regulations and provide strategic input to managers and program managers for planning how to adjust to the changes and coordinate resources to ensure an effective implementation of the changes.

  • Prioritize long- and short-term groundwater supply project works for maintenance and replacement of water assets to meet service demands, area municipality plans, Caledon groundwater comprehensive review, which require technical and financial analysis and project advancement/deferral/merging decisions (e.g., tendering strategies).
  • Evaluate changes to business processes or make recommendations for major changes. Review and evaluate bid submissions from consultants and contractors and recommendation on award.  Responses to Councillors and residents on water resources concerns (well interference, water quality, dewatering projects, etc.).
  • Provide input and recommendations into business plans and strategies, term of Council priorities, etc. (e.g., growth management, watershed protection, low watershed status). Plan, delegate and prioritize water resources projects and activities for the section.  Participation in various stakeholder committees.
  • Review hydrogeological investigations submitted by each section/capital groups and advise on the best practices to properly discharge dewatering values and analyze potential impacts to the surrounding areas to ensure alignment with the existing regulations
  • Evaluate and propose solutions to complex water resources servicing issues for the Region, develop business cases and rationale for various initiatives.  Provide input and recommendations into business plans and strategies.

What the role requires:

  • University Degree in Geo Science, Earth Sciences or Civil Engineering
  • 5 Years of relevant and related job experience.
  • Licenced Professional Geoscientist (P. Geo) with Professional Geoscientist Ontario, preferred or Licensed Professional Engineer (P. Eng) with Professional Engineers Ontario.
  • Must be a Qualified Person (QP) under hydrogeology as per the Professional Geoscientists Act, the Environmental Protection Act and Ontario Water Resources Act. Someone who can exercise professional judgement based on his or her education and professional experience in order to advise on matters related to water takings for a variety of projects including watermain construction or replacement, road construction and construction site dewatering.
  • Strong technical knowledge of water and wastewater infrastructure and related functions.
  • Ability to interpret legislation related to water infrastructure design and construction, Ministry assessments and official and Master Plans.
  • Combination of education and experience may be considered.

Skills/Abilities:

  • Leadership skills to lead project teams ability to delegate work, coordinate logistics and develop short and long terms plans/strategies to meet projects deliverables.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion through continuous development, modeling inclusive behaviors, and proactively managing bias

Nice to have: 

  • Professional knowledge of groundwater modeling is an asset.

Work Mode & Job Location: In this role you will have the ability to work remotely and attend on-site when required based on operational requirements at the 10 Peel Centre Drive, Brampton ON worksite.  The frequency of on-site activities may vary on a weekly basis and based on operational requirements. Your remote work location must be located within the province of Ontario.
