SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES
Located just outside of Seattle, WA, Lake Washington Institute of Technology (LWTech) was founded in 1949, and is the only public institute of technology in Washington State, that provides students with the latest cutting edge skills relevant to today’s workplace. LWTech offers ten applied bachelor’s degrees, more than 40 associate degrees and 93 professional certificates, in 43 areas of study, including STEM-focused programs in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. Summary
The advisor provides advising, case management, and educational and career planning for a diverse population of prospective and enrolled students. The high school programs advisor works collaboratively with other members of the team, college staff, and faculty to support student success and attainment of a high school diploma and/or postsecondary credential. This is an exempt over-time eligible, position that reports to the principal/dean of high school programs.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Conduct student intake meetings that include: student interviews, evaluation of transcripts and other high school records; development of an educational plan consistent with student’s aptitude, educational and career goals; and registration in classes
• Provide specialized and intensive assistance to a caseload of students in the areas of academic advising, social/emotional support, career guidance and completion
• Maintain and document a minimum of weekly contact with caseload of students and connect students with outside resources where needed
• Monitor student’s attendance, behavior and academic progress, promptly notify parents/guardians and students of any concerns. Create and implement attendance/academic progress strategies to improve student completion and persistence
• Maintain student records to assure accuracy of information and monitor progress towards high school graduation and college degree or certificate completion; utilize desktop and specialized computer database and other systems (such as Skyward, EDS, SMS)
• Maintain working knowledge of high school graduation and dropout reengagement requirements
• Respond to inquiries from prospective students, outside agencies, general public and other technical and community college personnel regarding high school programs; assist with student intake; process and update student information
• Recruit and retain minority and under-represented high school youth through outreach to local high schools and community agencies
• May teach college strategies or related classes to high school students, may develop and conduct workshops, and outreach activities
• Advise and inform college staff about high school services and policies; identify potential problem areas and make appropriate recommendations; prepare reports, including attendance, for internal and external sources
• Represent high school programs in the external community; professional and community organizations; conduct outreach activities designed for disengaged, minority, and under- represented high school youth to participate in college activities
• Assist principal/dean with program and departmental planning of goals and objectives; plan, schedule, train, and direct work activities of employees of lower classifications as assigned; assume and effectively perform other duties as assigned
• Ensure areas of responsibility operate within the policies and procedures of the college, high school programs and applicable governing agencies
• Maintain regular and satisfactory attendance and punctuality; some evening and weekend shifts may be required as needed

QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelors degree or equivalent combination of education and work experience related to above functions required; Masters degree in student development, counseling or related area preferred
• Three to five years work experience in educational counseling, case management, career counseling/advising/high school planning and/or experience working with at-risk high school age youth preferred
• Experience within the technical or community college setting preferred
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs

Compensation & Work Schedule
Salary is $4,721 per month. This is a full-time, 40 hour per week position. Working hours are Monday through Friday.
