Full-Time AdoptUSKids Digital Media Director

thelbach – Posted by thelbach Seattle, Washington, United States

Job Description

We’re looking for an experienced digital media professional to direct a team that designs, builds, and maintains websites, blogs, and applications and that develops and markets content for the national AdoptUSKids project.

This is a great opportunity for a digital professional to work on communications and products that serve children and families and the caseworkers who support them. Come work with us and help find children who need to be adopted the adoptive families they deserve!

About AdoptUSKids and the digital media team

AdoptUSKids is a federally funded project that supports child welfare systems across the United States. The digital media team builds and maintains websites and applications, including the popular adoptuskids.org and the national AdoptUSKids photolisting, a web platform that connects children in foster care with families who are looking to adopt. The team also leads digital communication activities, including social media and email outreach, and cooperates with a coalition of seven nonprofit organizations carrying out other aspects of AdoptUSKids work.

Who we’re looking for

The digital media director both sets the direction for the team and has a role in implementing. Yes, we’re looking for someone who can see the forest and the trees!

The ideal candidate will have experience directing or working closely with software developers, designers, user experience professionals, writers, and editors. You won’t be asked to code an application, design a publication, or author a blog post. But you’ll need to provide valuable leadership and information about best practices to guide the creation of these and other digital products.

You’ll also help shape the overall AdoptUSKids project and Northwest Resource Associates, which holds the grant for the project’s digital media work. This means balancing the needs and expectations of various stakeholders. Your diplomacy, critical-thinking skills, and ability to keep the conversation focused on users’ needs will come in handy.

Responsibilities

Lead a small but mighty team in developing software, publishing content, and distributing it through email, social media, and other means:

  • Supervise members of the team—six to seven digital professionals, plus contractors.
  • Develop and execute strategies and communications that grow, support, and appropriately reflect the diverse AdoptUSKids audiences.
  • Review and contribute to the creation of print and online materials as needed.
  • Serve as product owner and facilitate Agile processes and team discussions that give life to new software features and solutions that are user-centered.
  • Ensure information security by project-managing current cybersecurity work and maintaining a focus on cybersecurity going forward.
  • Manage the budget and allocate resources.
  • Develop reports and records to document program activities.
  • Analyze data to help guide strategy.

Serve on the collaborative leadership team of the national AdoptUSKids project:

  • Stay informed and engaged in the complex issues affecting child welfare systems and the families they serve.
  • Participate in strategic planning and decision-making as part of a team of child welfare leaders representing leading organizations throughout the country.

Serve on the management team of Northwest Resource Associates:

  • Help guide organizational policies and direction, with particular attention given to racial equity.
  • Equitably recruit, interview, select, and retain well-qualified staff and implement the human resources policies, procedures, and practices of Northwest Resource Associates and AdoptUSKids.

Minimum qualifications

  • Five years of experience being a collaborative leader invested in your team’s success.
  • Supervisory experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in racial equity practices and commitment to more learning and improvement.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience working on digital communication products or applications that have been evaluated to meet users’ needs.
  • Familiarity with editorial processes, style guides, and brand stewardship.
  • Strong project management skills, including experience with Agile project management and tools.
  • Familiarity with best-practices in design, development, user experience, and accessibility.
  • Commitment to continuous learning and innovation.

Additional skills desired

  • Information security.
  • Content marketing, including email strategy and implementation.
  • Grant writing.
  • Knowledge of foster care and adoption.

The digital media team is based in Seattle at Northwest Resource Associates, a nonprofit social services agency. The director and team will work remotely for some time, due to the pandemic.

Equity and inclusion are priorities across all programs at Northwest Resource Associates and throughout AdoptUSKids. We are committed to valuing and celebrating diversity, including but not limited to ability, age, gender expression, privilege, race, religion, and sexual orientation. We actively promote a culture free from bias and injustice.

This is a full time, exempt position based in our Downtown Seattle office.

Our organization offers excellent benefits, including paid vacation, sick and safe leave; ORCA pass; a SEP IRA with employer contribution; fully paid medical insurance options, dental, vision, disability, life and long-term disability insurance.
