Full-Time Administrative Assistant to the Director of Legislative Advocacy and Political Action

Job Description

The Administrative Assistant provides services to the Director of Legislative Advocacy and the Director of Political Action in the KNEA headquarters in Topeka, Kansas.

 

This position requires experience with and extensive knowledge of the capabilities and features of various computer and software programs including, but not limited to QuickBooks and the Microsoft Office Suite: Outlook, Word, Excel, and Publisher. In addition, the position will require learning and using the National Education Association’s NEA360 membership system. The ability and willingness to work in a challenging and ever-changing environment are necessary to be successful. Ideal candidates must be experienced, organized, committed to professionalism, and self-motivated.

 

The Administrative Assistant will, in addition to the duties specific to this position:

  • Have a detail-oriented focus,
  • Work as a team member with all other staff and officers,
  • Understand and support the mission of Kansas NEA, and
  • Maintain confidentiality of information.

 

Specific duties include:

  • Perform general administrative duties with minimum supervision and direction, including document preparation, filing, answering the telephone, handling department correspondence, preparation of reports, calendar management, and periodic switchboard coverage.
  • Responsible for timely production and submission of all Governmental Ethics reports.
  • Maintain accounts for Kansas Political Action Fund.
  • Responsible for file management for Political Action and Legislative Programs and continuous improvement of the current electronic and paper files.
  • Assist with the preparation, maintenance, and posting of various documents on the KNEA website.
  • Assist with the planning and staging of department meetings and training events.
  • Maintain membership lists for KPA.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
