SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES

Located just outside of Seattle, WA, Lake Washington Institute of Technology (LWTech) was founded in 1949, and is the only public institute of technology in the state of Washington. Summary of Position
The college is seeking a qualified adjunct professor for art courses, especially Illustration courses in the lower and upper divisions. Preference given to professors with experience teaching Scientific Illustration, which could focus on medical illustration, botanical illustration, or natural history illustration. Some of the courses LWTech offers at that level include:

• ART 203 Intermediate Drawing
• ART 205: Human Life Drawing
• ART 255: Introduction to Painting for Art Majors
• ART 256: Intermediate Painting
• ART 124: Introduction to Printmaking
• ART 224: Intermediate Printmaking
• ART 301: Drawing Expression
• ART 302: Illustration
• ART 313: Multicultural History of the Illustrated Image
• ART 312: Scientific Illustration
• ART 410: Thesis Exhibition

This recruitment is for a current vacancy beginning Fall 2024, as well as establishing an applicant pool for future adjunct faculty vacancies. Teaching hours include morning, afternoon, and evening courses, with at least one day in person/on campus weekly. The college hires adjunct faculty on a quarter-by-quarter basis, dependent on enrollment. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Teach college-level Art courses, with focus on illustration, drawing, and painting
• Teach to the learning outcomes of the approved curriculum
• Use effective teaching practices to promote equitable student learning
• Apply transparency in teaching and learning to class policies, materials, and assessments
• Facilitate an inclusive class culture
• Use current college learning management systems and integrate best practices in online learning
• Develop and teach lessons which foster and support equitable student learning and cultural diversity
• Teach productive and constructive study skills to students
• Develop classroom and lab procedures in conformance with identified policies and procedures
• Maintain appropriate records which indicate student progress and meet college requirements
• Post the class syllabus and students’ grades via the online course system (Canvas)
• Follow disciplinary procedures as prescribed and deal consistently and fairly with all students

QUALIFICATIONS

• Master’s degree in fine art required
• 2 years demonstrated experience in commercial art, illustration, or scientific illustration required
• 2 years teaching experience required; college teaching experience preferred
• Previous experience with an online course system (e.g., Canvas, Blackboard, Sakai, Moodle) preferred
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Must have sensitivity and ability to successfully interact with diverse populations

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION

CompensationPlacement on the faculty salary schedule is based on an individual assessment of education and experience. The salary for part time faculty contracts shall be based upon the number of credits assigned the faculty member, the type of class taught, and the rates contained in the part time faculty salary schedule currently in effect and labeled Appendix B.Step A ranges from $735.47 – $2,026.41Step B ranges from $774.00 – $2,322.00Step C ranges from $789.87 – $2,369.58Step D ranges from $844.26 – $2,532.78Step E ranges from $865.79 – $2,712.96BenefitsOnce part-time faculty have worked 50% full-time or more for two consecutive quarters(with LWTech or combined with other community/technical colleges), Medical, Dental, Vision, Life, Disability and other insurance benefits are provided as currently administered under Public Employees Benefits Board, State Retirement Plan and a Deferred Compensation Plan; sick leave accrues at 1 day (Prorated based on % of FTE) effective upon employment.
