Job Description

San Diego Humane Society is hiring a Full-Time Accounting Technician for our San Diego Campus!

SUMMARY:  Responsible for assisting the Controller and CFO in preparing financial data and maintaining accounting and employee records.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.  Other duties may be assigned.

  • Process, reconcile and record cash receipts on a daily basis.
  • Post accounts payable invoices to the general ledger utilizing Financial Edge accounting software.  Assists in the preparation of weekly/periodic check runs.
  • Assist Accounting Technician in charge of payroll with bi-weekly payroll as needed
  • Assist controller in the month-end and year-end process including assisting with the annual budget and preparation of audit schedules.
  • Prepare monthly bank and investment account reconciliations
  • Prepare reconciliation of accounts and schedules of activity
  • Prepare, distribute and record monthly Accounts Receivable billing
  • Prepare and enter adjusting journal entries
  • Assist in the analysis of financial data and budget variances
  • Prepare fixed asset/depreciation schedules and annual Business Property statements
  • Prepare and file monthly and quarterly sales and use tax returns
  • Review, distribute and process credit card transactions
  • Filing, special projects and other duties as assigned

  • Regularly and predictably attend work in-person as scheduled.

SALARY:
 This is a non-exempt position that starts at a rate of $16.91 per hour. Salary is commensurate with experience.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION/SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:  Require three years’ experience in accounting including general ledger analysis and reconciliation of accounts, accounts payable and receivable, payroll, fixed assets and depreciation.  Proficiency with MS Office and computerized accounting software is required.  Ability to work independently and accurately within tight deadlines.  High school diploma required.  Prefer Associate degree or college coursework in business or accounting.  Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:  Must be able to stand, walk, sit, talk and hear, stoop, bend, squat, kneel, grasp grip, put fingers together firmly and reach above and below shoulder level and lift, push or pull 25 pounds for situations of moving, lifting supplies, repetitively use hands to operate computers; flex the neck upward and downward; twist the neck and the waist.  Long periods of sitting. WORK ENVIRONMENT:  Standard office environment, with exposure to environmental conditions that include working near animals.
