Full-Time Accounting Manager I- Investments & Fixed Assets (Req#1085)
Job Description
The Accounting Manager I, working under the direction of the Assistant Controller, is responsible for managing the investment accounting staff and fixed asset staff accounting staff. The Accounting Manager will ensure that the Accounting staff under his/her supervision are adhering to the Bank’s policies and procedures and will assist with the monthly close of the financial systems. He/she will complete staff evaluations and manage the day-to-day activities and month-end activities of the staff. In addition, the incumbent will prepare investment and fixed asset reports to be used for reconciliation, journal entry, disclosure and analysis purposes.
This position addresses tight deadlines and a multitude of accounting activities including general ledger preparation and quarter/year end audit preparation. This position will have contact with senior-level employees which requires strong interpersonal communication skills both written and verbal.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Oversee and manage the investment accounting staff:
- Making employment decisions, reviewing performance, and making salary recommendations;
- Assigning work and advising subordinates when necessary
- Resolving personnel problems when they occur
- Approve work related to investment accounting activities including, but not limited to, investment payment processing, investment purchases/sales, reconciliations, journal entries, reports and disclosures.
- Oversee and manage the fixed asset staff:
- Making employment decisions, reviewing performance, and making salary recommendations;
- Assigning work and advising subordinates when necessary
- Resolving personnel problems when they occur
- Approve work related to fixed asset accounting activities including, but not limited to, fixed asset purchases/sales/retirements/depreciation, reconciliation, journal entries, reports and disclosures.
- Support month-end and year-end closing activities
- Prepare monthly fixed asset and lease report for the monthly Accounting and General Services meeting;
- Prepare other month-end/quarter-end fixed asset reports including activity rollforwards and book-tax gain/loss reports;
- Support the annual budgeting process for fixed assets
- Prepare monthly ASC 320 Investment unrealized gain/loss report and rabbi trust asset reports;
- Perform fluctuation analysis and other month-end/year-end activities as needed
- Perform SOX self-assessment testing
- Work with the Company’s external auditor
This position will need to make accounting and operational decisions with regards to day-to-day investment and fixed asset functions under the direction of the Assistant Controller. Problem solving skills and experience must be drawn upon as unforeseen issues and events arise.
Requirements:
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience is required
- Banking industry experience is preferred
Skills/Knowledge:
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Supervisory experience
- Strong communications, documentation and presentation skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word is essential
