About this role
The Accountant provides professional support to Access Now’s global Finance Team, by maintaining correct and compliant records for Access Now’s financial transactions, according to US-based Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). The Accountant works to continually improve internal financial controls across the Organization.
The Accountant reports through the Accounting Manager, in close consultation with the global Director – Finance. The Accountant works closely with others across the Finance Team – and with the broader Operations Arm, encompassing development, finance, human resources, and security functions – for strong fiscal management practices.
What you will do
The Accountant functions in a highly-detailed and fast-paced environment, using sound initiative at all times.
Accounts Payable and Receivable
- Enter accounts payable + cash disbursements and reconcile
- Enter accounts receivable + cash receipts and reconcile
- Enter monthly journal entries
- Reconcile all US cash accounts monthly
- Reconcile monthly credit card expenses
General Accounting
- Enter US payroll and time allocations on a monthly basis
- Enter Germany payroll and time allocation on a monthly basis
- Prepare monthly benefits schedules
- Reconcile monthly books of Costa Rica and Tunisia regional operations centers
- Assist in reconciling Europe entity books, as needed
- Prepare monthly balance sheets schedules pertaining to US, Costa Rica and Tunisia
- Perform monthly bank reconciliations
- Perform A/P and A/R aging reports, and reconcile discrepancies
- Conduct monthly salary discrepancy analysis and reconciliation
- Ensure proper 1099 vendor verification
Budget Support
- Assist in budget preparation in Excel as required
- Assist with annual audits and special project audits required by grant agreements
- Generate monthly budget-versus-actual reports and related initial analysis, particularly in preparation for Board Meetings
- Manage all electronic files in cloud-based drives
- Provide assistance and support for org-wide accounting system updates, as needed
- Assist in global implementation of the annual RightsCon summit series
- Perform other duties as assigned
Skills, education, and mindset you will bring
- Demonstrated professional-level work experience in accounting/bookkeeping roles
- Intermediate skill level in MS Excel (data filter, sort, basic formulas, Vlookups, etc)
- Knowledge and use of FundEZ accounting software
- Knowledge and use of SAP Concur billing and expense software
- Ability to work with a team and work independently
- Strong written and verbal office communication skills, with ability to work across global teams, both financial and non-financial in role
- Fluency in English
- Exceptional attention to detail, with caution and capability to account for all transactions
- Strong ability to prioritize, plan, organize, execute, and bring tasks to completion
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment across competing priorities and deadlines
- Adaptability, accuracy and independence
- Prior experience in virtual working environment
- Not-for-Profit/NGO organization experience
- Experience with and proficiency in G Suite, including Gmail, Calendar, Drive, and Docs
The Details
Location
This is a full-time position. While there is preference for candidates in New York, NY or Washington, DC, there is openness for qualified individuals to work from other locations. The successful candidate must possess the right to work in the location in which they will be based. At this time most Access Now Team Members are working through hybrid office arrangements, combining remote at-home work with intermittent use of offices and/or co-working spaces.
Remuneration
Access Now offers competitive compensation and benefits packages that align competitively with locations and regions around the world. Location-specific examples of initial placement within the salary range for this role include:
- $5,200 USD gross monthly (United States)
- €4,550 EUR gross monthly (Belgium)
- $3,760 USD gross monthly (Costa Rica)
- €5,275 EUR gross monthly (Germany)
