Full-Time Access Services Assistant and Administrative Support
Job Description
Elmira College is a private liberal arts College located in the Finger Lakes region of New York. Seeking innovative professionals from diverse backgrounds to fill the position of Access Services Assistant and Administrative Support.
This full-time position will serve dual roles as the Access Services Assistant within the Gannett-Tripp Library and also provide administrative support to Career Services and act as the College’s event coordinator for internal and external events.
POSITION SUMMARY: Access Services Assistant – 50%
Reporting to the Director of the Library, the Access Services Assistant aids in performing the operations of the Library Services Desk; supervises student workers in the absence of the Access Services Manager; provides basic research help; and communicates concerns with Facilities Management, Campus Safety, IT, and Library Administration, all in a flexible part-time work schedule that changes with the academic calendar.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Perform circulation transactions with confidentiality, using the integrated library system;
- Address library users’ information needs in person and over the phone, directing inquirers to appropriate offices and services within the GTL and campus wide and applying library policies with discretion;
- Provide basic research assistance to students;
- Assist in maintaining the order and physical condition of, and access to, library print and media collections by participating in shelf-reading, shifting, and inventory projects;
- Assist in overseeing the upkeep and maintenance of the library building in coordination with Facilities Management, Housekeeping, and Campus Safety personnel, ensuring a safe, clean, attractive, comfortable environment for library users and staff;
- Troubleshoot IT problems in the absence of IT Help Desk personnel during late evening hours.
POSITION SUMMARY: Administrative Support – 50%
Serve as the College’s Event Coordinator with internal and external groups, working with Facilities and Catering to ensure that the event space is ready and catering is set. Will also assist Career Services with recording and processing student Community Engagement hours.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Coordinate events with internal and external parties;
- Coordinate with Facilities for event set up, Campus Safety for access to buildings and Parkhurst Food for catering/alcohol;
- Bill customer and record sale;
- Assist with Career Services in recording and processing Community Engagement information and hours;
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s Degree preferred;
- Effective oral and written communication and organizational skills;
- Supervisory experience preferred;
- Computer proficiency and ability to learn and adapt to changes in electronic functions and applications;
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively;
- Ability to evaluate situations, apply good judgment in making decisions regarding the application of library policies, and maintain confidentiality.

BASIS OF PAY: Hourly, Non-Exempt
