Full-Time Access Coordinator
Job Description
The Access Coordinator assists the Disability Resource Center in implementing appropriate and effective academic accommodations within the framework of the legal mandates of the American with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act. Services are offered to provide students with disabilities the opportunity to effectively participate in the academic and social environment of the University. To ensure equal access, the Access Coordinator acts as an advocate for students with disabilities. In the academic year 2018-2019, DRC provided accommodations and services for 747 active students and many prospective students and their parents.
The Access Coordinator assists, as needed, in providing consultation with faculty and campus staff regarding academic accommodations, compliance with legal responsibilities, as well as instructional, programmatic, physical, and curricular accommodations. UNC partners work collaboratively with DRC to ensure equitable access and to assist in the University’s commitment to compliance with federal regulations.
Information regarding disability related issues is disseminated through disability awareness training, presentations, brochures, and the website. The Access Coordinator assists in providing disability representation on relevant campus committees as approved by the Senior Access Coordinator and Director. Other duties as assigned by the Senior Access Coordinator and Director.
Minimum Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Special Education, Human Services, Disability Services, Psychology, or other appropriate field of study.
• Experience working with people with disabilities.
• Excellent verbal and communication skills.
• Knowledge and experience working with persons of diverse backgrounds.
• The candidate should have a minimum experience of one year working with people with disabilities.
• The individual must have knowledge of or the ability to quickly learn the legal standards of the Americans with Disabilities Act and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act.
• Experience in reviewing medical and psychological evaluations beneficial.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Master’s degree in Special Education, Rehabilitation Counseling, Professional Psychology, Higher Education Student Affairs Leadership, or another related field preferred.
• Three years’ experience in a post-secondary setting working with students with disabilities and other high-risk student s in a higher educational setting.
• The individual must have a thorough working knowledge of the Americans with Disabilities Act and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act.
• Experience in reviewing or evaluating medical and psychological evaluations.
Salary and Benefits:
Salary is $44,578. Benefits available include health, dental, vision, life and long-term disability insurance, as well as a selection of several defined contribution retirement plans. Dependents and spouses of UNC Employees who are employed at 0.5 FTE or above are eligible for undergraduate dependent tuition grants of up to 50%. These tuition grants will cover in-state tuition charges. Further requirements may exist. Other benefits may be available based on position.
