Full-Time Academic and Administrative Assistant
Job Description
The Academic and Administrative Assistant will work closely with the Program Director and will provide academic and administrative support for scientific activities. Key functions will include administrative and clerical functions, assistance with coordination of clinical projects and project staff & volunteers, liaison with external and internal organizations, and assisting as an editorial assistant for an international journal.
Here’s What You’ll Get to Do:
Administrative Functions:
- Provide administrative and clerical support to Program Director including:
- Scheduling of meetings and conference calls
- Coordination of national and international travel by the Director
- Coordination of workshops and other scientific events at the hospital or other locations
- Email correspondence with local, national, and international centers
- Other duties that may arise
- Liaising with partner organizations and various hospital departments to help set-up collaborative studies.
- Prioritizing and effectively managing both planned and unexpected developments and opportunities
Academic Functions:
- Provide academic support to Program Director in administrative and scientific activities.
- Review and editing of manuscripts, proposals, protocols, and grants associated with this and other projects.
- Supporting the editorial team of a scientific journal by tracking submissions, drafting emails, recruiting reviewers, and performing copyediting
- Critical literature review and analysis
- Perform data analysis, interpretation, and presentation.
- Prepare abstracts, manuscripts, and other scientific documents.
- Participation and assistance with CALIPER project outreach and recruitment (such as CALIPER clinics held in community schools) (www.caliperproject.ca)
- Research data analysis using R statistics and other statistical programs.
- Other duties that may arise
Here’s What You’ll Need:
- Bachelors or master’s degree in science, social science, or humanities
- Evidence of excellent organization and written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to function independently yet collaboratively within a team.
- Highly developed analytical, evaluative, and problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrated high level of judgment, tact, and diplomacy in interacting with a wide variety of internal and external stakeholders.
- Excellent literature research skills
- Statistical and laboratory experience in the context of clinical research (highly desirable)
- Strong computer skills (Microsoft Office, Internet, and MEDLINE searches)
Employment Type:
Full-Time (5-year contract) with annual review/renewal
