You will become the “go to” person for our sophomore to senior classes in the college, enmeshed in our students’ journey in their pursuit of greatness. Working with under-represented, first gen & international students who are paving their way comes with many questions, needs, goals & overcoming obstacles unique to their situation. This position also comes with those due to its design in the dept.
You collaborate closely with faculty, sharing the advising aspects, guidance & follow up. A highly technical & detailed position based on the programs you advise on including the details & not being overlooked. Your strong desire to master the job quickly & establish yourself as the department’s foremost authority while respectfully seeking advice from administrators to confirm. You see yourself as a partner with all involved striving to make everyone’s position connect flawlessly, being the information sharing hub progress throughout the academic year.

Summary of Responsibilities
Advises students concerning their academic plans, progress, and academic and career goals in order to assist students in making personal education decisions and meeting graduation requirements. Interprets student needs and provides individualized service and assistance while maintaining confidentiality.
Essential Functions
- Provides students with information on how to complete their college degree and refers students to appropriate campus and community services and resources when needed.
- Serves as a resource person to faculty and others with regard to academic advising policies and procedures. May review and optimize procedures as needed.
- May assist in the development of and participates in recruitment and retention activities related to the student population such as monitoring educational progress and/or providing application or other assistance. May maintain confidential student records and personal information.
- May conduct or participate in seminars, workshops or orientation sessions for students on academic, career and personal success strategies and other group activities.
Minimum Education
Bachelor’s degree in related field by hire date
Minimum Experience
One (1) year of experience in student services or related field. Every 15 hours of graduate college coursework beyond a bachelor’s degree can be substituted for one (1) year of experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Ability to work well and professionally with a diverse population.
- Effective oral and written communication skills. Strong interpersonal skills
- Organized and prioritizes workload to meet deadlines even under limited supervision.
- Knowledge of how to establish and maintain professional relationships with students, faculty, and staff.
- Proficient use of computers and various programs or ability to learn quickly with limited training provided.
Range beginning $40,000/yr, adjusted based on evident experience
