Salary Range: $97,371 – $121,713
Essential Functions and Objectives:
Broad responsibility for leading a team of managers to execute against the overall business plan, based on guidance from leadership. Directs, plans and oversees team initiatives, to ensure implementation and administration of programs align with district goals.
Leads the comprehensive K-12 vision & strategy for instructional programming for multilingual learners in Denver Public Schools. This entails designing, developing, and aligning instructional programming and initiatives for multilingual learners at the elementary and secondary levels in collaboration with the Academics and Schools Divisions. Cultivate working relationships with other content owners across Academics to successfully integrate language into core content materials and professional learning, including Integrated Content Language Development(ICLD), Biliteracy Strategies and English Language Development (ELD).
– Embed an instructional lens for multilingual learners in all initiatives led by the Academics Division.
– Design and develop high-quality professional learning and resources to support leaders, teachers, central staff in the successful implementation of instructional initiatives for multilingual learners.
– Oversee the required English Language Acquisition Teacher Qualification and New Leader Development coursework that is required of all new leaders to Denver Public Schools, including charters Integrated Content Language Development(ICLD), Bilingual programs and English Language Development (ELD).
– Design, develop and refine the district approach to ELD, ICLD and Bilingual Programming.
– Establish formal and informal connections to ensure that ICLD and Bilingual strategies are embedded in all district decisions related to courses, curriculum, professional learning and other initiatives.
– Manage the core content area of English Language Development and ensure that it is included in all district-wide work focused on core content areas.
Knowledge, Experience & Other Qualifications:
– Five (5) or more years of relevant work experience is required.
– Three (3) or more years of management responsibility experience is required.
– Bilingual in Spanish/English is required.
– Colorado or equivalent endorsement in Linguistically Diverse Education is required.
– Classroom teaching experience in bilingual/ESL classrooms is required.
– Type D administrative credential is required.
– Administrative experience in bilingual/ESL programs is required.
– Knowledge of applicable laws and regulations.
– Experience in analyzing data, and using this data to for process and program improvements and to inform strategy.
– Outstanding facilitation and communication skills, including ability to inspire others.
– Strong interpersonal and leadership skills, including the ability to lead a high-performing team.
– Superior leadership, coaching and mentoring skills.
– Strong inter-personal skills and ability to work with individuals at all different levels in the organization.
– Self-starter/leader who can anticipate department needs in a proactive (versus, reactive) manner.
– Strategic planning and organizational development knowledge and skills.
– Ability to develop, plan, and implement short- and long-range goals, establish priorities, and organize resources.
– Ability to motivate and influence others.
Education Requirements:
– Master’s Degree in Education, Bilingual/ESL education, or related field is required.
– Doctorate in Bilingual/ESL education is preferred.
