DEPARTMENT OF TECHNOLOGY SERVICES (DOTS)

Traditional 235 work days 

FTE: 1.0

Salary Range: $70,057 – $84,779

  

Essential Functions and Objectives:

Responsible for the functionality, support, and optimization of specific systems, programs, or processes within the district. Applies subject matter expertise. Administers the day to day execution, maintenance, and change management of distinct areas of work to ensure business continuity. References tools, information, and other resources to ensure compliance with district policies and procedures.

Supports Database and Application Systems within the DPS technology infrastructure. Ensures all systems and services perform effectively and efficiently at all times. Installs, maintains and keeps applications up-to-date as required. Serves as System Administrator over District applications. 

– Provides technical and/or administrative support within a specific area, including: develops and maintains documentation, manages processes, and coordinates activities, audits work, and analyzes reports.

Ensures ongoing effort to improve effectiveness, including: researches and evaluates pending developments, identifies areas of concern, recommends solutions, and implements upgrades and enhancements.

Assesses and troubleshoots escalated problems and applies advanced understanding to resolve problems of stakeholders; focuses on root cause identification in order to achieve systemic improvement.

Confers cross-functionally with other teams, employees, and vendors. Answers others with problems, repairs, access issues or user rights. Provides training and technical advice to a team of employees. Coordinates with vendors as needed.

Responsible for the installation, maintenance, configuration, and integrity of enterprise applications, systems, and underlying infrastructure to the District that have extremely high availability. 

Responsible for the uptime, performance, and recoverability of the systems. Troubleshoot and recover from system outages.

Monitor Performance and maintain systems according to requirements.

Responsible for the uptime of external client facing application servers. Work with hardware and software vendors to address issues and solve problems. 

Deliver customer/end user, hands on and telephone support internally in an efficient and timely manner. 

Ensure DPS database and application support services are delivered in a timely fashion in accordance with the internal and external SLA’s. 

Provide proficiency in “High End” implementations of Microsoft SQL Server, internally developed applications and commercially available “Off the Shelf” applications. Write shell scripts, SQL scripts, TSQL procedures and SQL statements as necessary. 

– Working knowledge of Linux/Apache/MySQL/MariaDB/PHP) and JAVA/IBM Websphere/ Apache Tomcat.

Provide support to the other team members and level 1 and level 2 support teams, with troubleshooting the database and application environments. 

Provides problem identification and resolution expertise. 

Part of a Team responsible for the creation and maintenance of databases, application environments, and establishing and maintaining a stable and responsible environment for production, QA and development. 

Performs configuration, upgrades and applies system patches as required 

Assists in the development and implementation of new data processing techniques, software packages and equipment as directed by the Lead Senior Database/Application Administrator. 

Ensure appropriate systems backups; standard recovery and disaster recovery procedures are operational. 

Plan, implement and participate in the department’s disaster recovery system. 

Knowledge, Experience & Other Qualifications:

– Five (5) plus years of experience with supporting both internally developed applications and large commercially available “Off the Shelf” applications. 

Knowledge with Google Suite and Microsoft Office products. 

Effective time management and organizational skills.

Effective communication skills. 

Strong attention to detail. 

Effectively handle multiple demands and competing deadlines. 

The ability to take responsibility for one’s own performance. 

Work collaboratively with others on a team. 

High degree of integrity in handling confidential information.

3+ years’ experience directly related to System Administration, Preferred.

Individuals must have a minimum of 3+ years database/application administration experience. 

Thorough knowledge of database, applications and products administration is a must.

Education Requirements:

– High School Diploma, required. 

Bachelor’s Degree, preferred.
