Friends of Ruby is dedicated to the journey and well-being of 2SLGBTQIA+ youth, aged 16-29 through mental health services, social services, and housing. Friends of Ruby offers Youth Mental Health services, a Youth Drop-In Centre, and a Transitional Home. The Centre provides access to barrier-free counselling and therapeutic groups, case management and a drop-in space with hot meals, community, and comprehensive programming. The Home provides transitional and emergency housing, mental health, and life-skills to support youth moving towards independent living.

Position Summary
The Clinical Team Lead will be responsible for providing leadership, guidance, and support to the counselling and Drop-in teams, ensuring the delivery of exceptional patient care, and fostering a positive and collaborative work environment. This position will play a key role in debriefing critical incident situations, case consultation on an ad-hoc and scheduled basis, responding to crisis, supporting staff in scheduling, overseeing the on-call rotation roster, working with the management team at the House to ensure youth are receiving timely counselling support, and supporting the Clinical Manager in day-to-day task.
This position will maintain a reduced caseload of youth that they are offering counselling support to. Additional responsibilities include ensuring high quality program delivery, supporting the evaluation team in their work, and program planning. This role will provide day-to-day, mentorship, and performance enhancement to the clinical and drop-in teams, working with the management to ensure effective teamwork, high standards of work quality and organizational performance, customer service excellence, and continuous learning. This will be done through mentoring, coaching and through personal demonstrations in their own work.
Compensation: $60,000.00 – $70,000.00
Duties and Responsibilities
Clinical Leadership and Supervision:
- Provide leadership and supervision to the clinical team, including nurses, physicians, and other healthcare professionals.
- Oversee the day-to-day operations of the clinical team, ensuring the efficient delivery of patient care services.
- Conduct regular team meetings and provide ongoing feedback, coaching, and support to staff members.
- Collaborate with the Director of Clinical Services to develop and implement clinical policies, procedures, and protocols.
- Monitor and evaluate the performance of the clinical team, identify areas for improvement, and implement strategies to enhance clinical effectiveness and efficiency.
Patient Care and Management:
- Ensure the delivery of high-quality, patient-centered care in accordance with best practices, clinical guidelines, and regulatory requirements.
- Oversee patient intake, assessment, treatment planning, and discharge processes, ensuring continuity of care and adherence to established protocols.
- Address patient concerns, complaints, and feedback in a timely and compassionate manner, striving to resolve issues and improve the patient’s experience.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to develop and implement comprehensive care plans tailored to meet the unique needs of each patient.
Staff Development and Training:
- Identify professional development needs within the clinical team and develop training programs and resources to address those needs.
- Provide ongoing education, mentorship, and support to clinical staff to enhance their clinical skills, knowledge, and competence.
- Facilitate cross-training and skill development opportunities to promote interdisciplinary collaboration and teamwork.
- Foster a culture of continuous learning, innovation, and excellence within the clinical department.
People Management:
- Supervise clinical team, contractors, peer support workers and students (if any).
- Assign tasks, responsibilities, clear deliverables, timelines, and ensure employees take accountability for their work.
- Coordinate and work collaboratively with the Housing Manager and the Manager of Case Management for programming between the Drop- In, Clinical Services and the House and to better support participants across the organization’s services.
- Work with management to ensure the accurate documenting of statistical data related to clinical programming and all data meets confidentiality requirements.
- Work with the Joint Health & Safety Committee to ensure the facility and programming meets all legislative requirements.
ARAO and DEI:
- Ensure the facility and services adequately meet the physical, social, and development needs of all residents and the protection of each participant’s health, safety, comfort, and well-being.
- A champion for DEI and ARAO, including but not limited to:

Qualifications
- A master’s or bachelor’s degree in, Social Work, Counselling Psychology, or a related discipline. Registered and in good standing with a college that allows for the provision of psychotherapy.
- 3-5 years clinical experience working in Mental Health and Addictions.
- Minimum 1 year previous providing clinical supervision to other counsellors.
- Demonstrated effectiveness with designing, planning, leading and change management in community mental health.
- Experience using an electronic client record system.
- Lived experience as a member of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community.
- A proactive and effective supervisor, with strong people skills and proven ability to apply best practices in effective mentorship and modelling.
- Experience volunteering or working in a community-based organization.
- Experience with quality improvement and program monitoring tools.
- Thorough understanding and commitment to anti-racist/ anti-oppression theory and practice, as utilized through a program delivery and clinical lens.
- Demonstrated ability to plan and implement evidence-based programming.
- Experience using multiple modalities of counselling including single-session, DBT, EMDR, solution focused, EFT etc.

Physical Requirements
- Physically Active Duties: Prolonged periods of standing, walking, or sitting may be necessary. Occasional lifting and carrying of medical equipment or supplies may be required.
- Crisis Intervention: Manage and intervene in crisis situations effectively, which may involve physically restraining individuals if necessary.
- Emotionally Demanding Situations: Ability to handle emotionally challenging circumstances with resilience and composure, providing support and guidance to youth in distress.
- Managing Clinical Environment: Ability to navigate clinical environments, including patient care areas, clinics, and treatment rooms, which may involve stairs or uneven surfaces.
Additional Requirements:
- Satisfactory clearance under the Vulnerable Sector Police Check program.
- Legal eligibility to work in Canada.
- Working on a hybrid model, 3 days per week onsite, in downtown Toronto. The current hybrid model may be subject to change, considering business needs and responsibilities.
- Flexible schedule to accommodate occasional organizational needs, including evening and/or weekend work.
- Ability to travel to other community-based settings as required.
