Primary Purpose
Normally designated as a lead engineer for SDGE gas pipeline system projects and related activities. As such, provides work direction to subordinate engineers and/or acts as a project leader over the more complex or major engineering projects and/or studies.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership/direction for major or complex engineering and construction projects and/or studies; may serve as cognizant discipline engineer.
  • Provide leadership, technical advice, training and guidance to lower level engineers as well as clerical, technical and operating personnel; may participate in the selection, hiring and promotion of subordinate personnel.
  • Conduct complex engineering studies which require advanced knowledge within the assigned discipline.
  • Provide coordination, monitor progress, interpret results and ensure timely completion of assignments.
  • Develop Company standards, specifications and procedures. Participate in, and provide technical input to, review of proposed changes in regulatory requirements affecting codes and standards. Recommend modifications to Company policies and procedures that reflect regulatory changes. Develop Company standards, specifications and procedures governing selection, design, application and operation of materials, components and systems which meet Company needs on a long term basis and with optimum economic considerations.
  • Identify system and customer impacts, mitigation plans, and provides field operations workgroups with technical incident response guidance. Collaborate with EOC, DOC-G, and ICS representatives. Perform and leads others in covered emergency response functions and afterhours on-call responsibilities as defined by CFR 49 Part 40 and CFR 49 Part 199.
  • Identify actual or potential problem areas and develop corrective actions to be taken.
  • May be required to support regulatory filings, answer data requests, and testify at regulatory meetings.
  • Keep informed of technical developments, industry codes and safety and/or regulatory requirements which have impact upon the respective engineering discipline. Represent the Company/industry as a member of outside engineering/standards organizations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned (no more than 5% of duties).

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited program or Professional Engineer (PE) certification in addition to five (5) years of engineering experience or an Advanced degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited program. Required
  • 5+ A minimum of five years of engineering experience is required. Required
  • Thorough knowledge in more advanced engineering concepts. Advanced Required
  • Uses a high degree of ingenuity, analytical ability and judgment in identifying problems and impacts of complex engineering studies. Advanced Required
  • Registration as a professional engineer is required. Required
  • Ability to attend field meetings and project construction sites.
  • Ability to perform covered emergency response functions and afterhours on-call responsibilities as defined by CFR 49 Part 40 and CFR 49 Part 199. Subject to DOT Drug & Alcohol Testing Regulations.
  • Must reside in Southern California or be willing to relocate upon hire.
  • We offer a hybrid work environment. Although the schedule may vary, typically this will allow you to work from the office two to three days per week and work remotely on the remaining workdays.
  • PHMSA (Pipeline & Hazardous Materials Safety Administration)
    • The U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) and the California Public Utilities Commission have adopted regulations governing the control of drug use by persons in certain job classifications.  This job is covered by that regulation (49 CFR 199) and candidates who are not already in a covered job classification will be tested for the presence of prohibited drugs and must meet DOT standards before appointment to the job. Once in the job, successful candidates will be subject to random drug testing.
