JOB TITLE: Program Specialist, Teacher Education & Curriculum Development

LOCATION:
History Center – 345 W Kellogg Blvd., St. Paul, MN 55102

COMPENSATION: $55,702.40 annual minimum 

STATUS & HOURS: Full-time, project (approximately 2,080 annual hours) position through June 26, 2027. 

BENEFITS: Eligible to participate in State Employee Group Insurance Program and a retirement program with employer contribution. Generous vacation and sick time accruals with additional paid holidays.

DESCRIPTION: To coordinate the development, design, and production necessary to ensure the successful, on-time, within budget completion of all Northern Lights 3rd Edition components. The Project Specialist also proactively facilitates open, timely, and consistent communication and collaboration within the Northern Lights 3rd Edition project team, between this team and MNHS staff and stakeholders beyond MNHS, and with outside vendors/contractors. 

SUMMARY OF WORK: 1) Work closely with the Program Manager of Teacher Education and Curriculum Development and the Northern Lights 3rd Edition Development Team to implement the development plan to complete all Northern Lights 3rd Edition components in an efficient and cost-effective manner, while maintaining high-quality production; 2) Provide financial management for the Northern Lights 3rd Edition project; 3) Foster effective communication throughout the Northern Lights 3rd Edition development project; and 4) Initiate and maintain a file and data management and tracking system. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, history, humanities, business, organizational management, English/literature/journalism/publishing or a related field or equivalent experience. 
  • Four years of experience in one or more of the degree field(s) listed above, in particular project management or publishing. professional sales, education, or classroom teaching.
  • Results-oriented, with a demonstrated ability to work both independently and within a team environment. 
  • A resourceful self-starter with aptitude for problem solving and the ability to make strategic judgments. 
  • Strong oral, writing, presentation, and interpersonal skills. 
  • Demonstrated ability to work with diverse groups and individuals.
  • Demonstrated ability to multitask, work effectively under pressure to meet deadlines, prioritize and adapt to changing priorities. 
  • Demonstrated ability to think imaginatively and problem solve. 
  • Familiarity with computer applications such as Google Suite, Microsoft, Munis Finance — and/or comfortable with learning and using new software applications. 
  • Ability and willingness to travel locally and throughout Minnesota. 
  • Valid driver’s license. 

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Master’s degree in education, history, humanities, business, organizational management, English/literature/journalism/publishing or related field. 
  • Familiarity with current educational standards and the structure of education delivery in Minnesota. 
  • Experience with K-12 classrooms, teaching practices, and/or curriculum content.
  • General knowledge of Minnesota and US history and social studies education.
  • Demonstrated ability to project manage complex, multi-pronged projects with many stakeholders and numerous business vendors. 
  • Deep knowledge of print and/or digital publishing. 
  • Familiarity with non-profit organizations in general and with the Minnesota Historical Society specifically, including book publishing and K-12 products.
