JOB TITLE: #1797 Program Supervisor, Mill City Museum 

LOCATION: Mill City Museum, 704 South 2nd St., Minneapolis, MN 55401

SALARY: $52,720 annual minimum 

STATUS & HOURS: Full-time, regular (approximately 2,080 annual hours) position. Must be able to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays. 

BENEFITS: Eligible to participate in the State Employee Group Insurance Program and a retirement program with employer contribution. Generous vacation and sick time accruals with additional paid holidays.

DESCRIPTION: This position exists to provide direct supervision for site interpretive staff and volunteers, develop site programming, coordinate the daily operations, and participate in community outreach. 

SUMMARY OF WORK: 1) Provide direct supervision of program staff and support for interpretive program delivery; 2) Support daily administrative operations of the Museum; 3) Develop and implement interpretive programs, in various formats, that engage audiences of diverse ages, backgrounds, interests and learning styles, including research, format selection, scheduling, budgeting, publicity, delivery and evaluation; 4) Serve as a liaison between all MNHS departments and external vendors that work in the Museum; 5) Assist Site Manager with the development of annual and long-range planning; and 6) Represent the Mill City Museum Museum in the absence of or in lieu of the Site Manager. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience. 
  • Three years experience working in education, program delivery, or program development or curriculum development, or equivalent. 
  • Experience creating, evaluating, and updating education curriculum and programming.
  • Ability to perform moderate physical labor in order to keep the museum clean and safe.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time to perform programming responsibilities.
  • Ability to lift 20 pounds. 
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability and willingness to travel. 
  • Valid driver’s license.

DEMONSTRATED SKILLS IN: 

  • Supervising staff, including mentoring, performance management, hiring, and scheduling.
  • Training staff on customer service and communicating program information.
  • Delivering educational program content to diverse audiences. 
  • Synthesizing research findings into coherent themes and narratives. 
  • Thinking imaginatively and problem solving. 
  • Customer service and interpersonal communications skills sufficient to establish and maintain effective working relationships. 
  • Multitasking, working effectively under pressure to meet deadlines, prioritizing and adapting to changing priorities. 
  • Working independently and taking individual initiative while also being able to collaborate effectively and contribute positively in a team environment. 
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills with a demonstrated results orientation.
  • Communicating clearly and accurately both orally and in writing. 
  • Recognizing and respecting confidential information. 
  • Administering and monitoring program budgets. 
  • Computer skills and technical proficiency. 

KNOWLEDGE OF: 

  • History research methodology and data gathering techniques, including ability to conduct original research in primary source collections. 
  • Minnesota history and culture. 
  • MNHS programs. 
  • Microsoft Word and Google suite applications. 

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Knowledge of general American history and, specifically, Minnesota history.
