Full-Time Academic Advisor
Job Description
Provide academic advising to undergraduate students in the B.A. and B.S. programs in Informatics and to provide general support to undergraduate studies in the School of Information.
- Advise Informatics students on course selection for current and future semesters, degree requirements, catalog and major changes, progress towards the degree and degree audit, degree information, and graduate school planning. Developing advising aids. Track students with academic difficulty and monitor students on scholastic probation. Maintain accurate and confidential digital student records in accordance with FERPA regulations and university policies. Develop and update the undergraduate student handbook.
- Serve as the primary graduation coordinator, including approving or denying graduation applications and graduation in absentia requests, add honors designations for each candidate, certify degree candidates. Create and administer exit survey.
- Develop the undergraduate community. Form and advise student organizations. Maintain student email lists. Provide information to Informatics students regarding campus resources and student services. Assist students with crisis management by making appropriate referrals and recommendations.
- Provide back-up to the Undergraduate Program Coordinator as contact to prospective students and other external audiences concerning admissions policies and general program information.
- Assist the Undergraduate Program Coordinator in promoting the program to new and incoming students, including organizing and holding information and orientation sessions for prospective and incoming students. Participate in the planning and execution of first-year and transfer orientation, Honors Day, and Family Weekend.
