Through its early-grade program, PowerMyLearning combines professional learning with a math practice tool to enhance instruction, with a special focus on promoting math discourse, supporting multilingual learners, and engaging families.

Position Overview

The Director of Math serves as part of PowerMyLearning’s Product and Programs team and reports to the Managing Director of Product and Programs. The Director of Math is responsible for leading the development of high-quality, culturally responsive PreK-5 math content for PowerMyLearning’s Family Playlists and additional products. This role involves driving and applying instructional design principles to ensure that the content is pedagogically sound and engaging. Content must be effective for a diverse range of learners, particularly multilingual learners (MLLs) and students from historically marginalized communities. The Director of Math will collaborate closely with internal teams and external partners to align content with research-based instructional practices, current trends in math learning science, and the needs of teachers and students.

Key Responsibilities

Content Development and Strategy (60%)

  • Craft and execute a visionary strategy for developing PreK-5 math content that aligns with high-quality instructional materials (HQIM) like Illustrative Math and Eureka Math.
  • Ensure content supports academic achievement, social-emotional learning, and equitable opportunities for all students.
  • Oversee the production of math content, ensuring deliverables are timely, high-quality, and budget-conscious.
  • Integrate research-based instructional practices and current trends in math learning science into all content.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to embed content seamlessly into PowerMyLearning’s platform.

Continuous Improvement & Stakeholder Engagement (25%)

  • Conduct research to identify curriculum gaps, teacher/student needs, and shifts in educational standards.
  • Test and refine content using feedback from teachers, families, and learning outcome data.
  • Partner with educators and academic advisors to ensure content meets the needs of multilingual learners and marginalized communities.
  • Represent PowerMyLearning at conferences, sharing best practices in math instruction.

Team Leadership & Cross-Functional Collaboration (15%)

  • Lead and mentor internal staff and contractors, fostering a culture of excellence and innovation.
  • Collaborate across teams to align content with organizational goals and design principles.
  • Support marketing and development teams with content for promotional materials and grant proposals.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience leading digital content teams with expertise in the elementary or middle school curriculum market.
  • Strong background in instructional design, particularly for multilingual learners and collaborative learning environments.
  • Proven experience developing math curriculum aligned with Common Core and HQIM like Illustrative Math or Eureka Math.
  • Knowledge of math learning science and digital instructional design.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage content development projects and meet tight deadlines.
  • Exceptional analytical, organizational, and communication skills.

Preferred Experience

  • Advanced degree in mathematics education, instructional design, or a related field.
  • Experience teaching K-5 math.
  • ESL certification or experience designing instructional content for multilingual learners (MLLs).
  • Track record of presenting at conferences or leading professional workshops.

Compensation
The annual salary for this position is $115,000 and is non-negotiable.
