Full-Time Environmental Specialist – Entry Level!
Job Description
- Acquire all environmental permits to enable projects to be constructed.
- Plan, schedule, track, and report on the status of work on project tasks.
- Participate in project team meetings and coordinate with project teams and NCDOT Transportation Divisions.
- Ensure natural resource investigations are conducted in compliance with applicable laws, NCDOT policies, and in keeping with project schedules.
- Work independently while interacting with engineers, project managers and regulatory agencies to collect, evaluate, analyze, and tabulate data for inclusion in project environmental documents and permits.
- Provide general environmental guidance during the planning, design, and implementation of transportation projects.
- Perform tasks and assignments as required by NCDOT management.
- Knowledge of wetland and stream systems, biological communities, and the impact of development on those resources.
- Knowledge of federal/state environmental laws and regulatory requirements, including the National/State Environmental Policy Act, Clean Water Act, Endangered Species Act, and Coastal Area Management Act.
- Knowledge of the techniques used to conduct ecological field inventories, stream delineations, wetland delineations and protected species surveys.
- Experience solving problems, resolving conflicts, and applying critical thinking to environmental issues.
- Experience effectively communicating technical information in writing and verbally to varied audiences.
- Bachelor’s degree in agricultural, biological, engineering, environmental or natural resource sciences or a closely related curriculum; or
- An equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Candidates with specialized training in environmental topics, such as wetland and stream delineations, NEPA, DWR riparian buffer requirements, and Clean Water Act Sections 404/401.
