Full-Time Criminal Justice Substance Misuse Practitioner

Job Description

We have an exciting opportunity at Derby Drug and Alcohol Recovery Service for someone who is passionate about helping people and making a difference. This role will be based in Derby City, working 37.5 hours per week, Monday-Friday.

The Role

To contribute to overall community safety from drug and alcohol related crime.

To comprehensively assess service users entering treatment and to provide intensive and structured 1:1 and group work support, delivering appropriate substance misuse treatment interventions to service users with problematic drug/alcohol use involved with the criminal justice system.

To support service users to re-integrate fully into communities following release from prison, effectively linking them in with relevant partner agencies and engagement in meaningful activity.

To effectively and proactively engage with service users subject to community orders, involved with Integrated Offender Management team and Probation services, with regular appropriate liaison with relevant partner agencies, services and teams.

To demonstrate a positive recovery orientated ethos in all engagement.

To achieve positive outcomes focused on: Reduction in early unplanned exits, Increased Prison Release engagement in community treatment, Increased successful completions, Reduction in re-presentations.

About You

  • Relevant experience of work in the field of drug /alcohol and substance misuse or a similar field within the public sector.
  • Experience of key working
  • Able to assess, plan and  implement care
  • Experience of working with women
  • Relevant experience and training in delivering psychosocial interventions
  • Knowledge of adult and child safeguarding
  • Experience of partnership working and multi-agency liaison
  • Experience of achieving agreed objectives, targets and deadlines
  • No criminal record that prevents work with our client group or which would harm our reputation
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Outlook and Microsoft Word and familiar with relevant database management systems
  • Ability to work evenings on a rota basis if required.

The Service
Working in partnership with Derbyshire Healthcare Foundation Trust based in St Andrews House Derby with free on-site parking.  We provide community support for people with drug and alcohol problems. We offer advice and guidance, one-to-ones and group sessions, support from harm reduction nurses, prescription services, and needle exchange.
