Full-Time MacOS Specialist

Job Description

We are seeking a highly proficient and motivated macOS Specialist who is a team player with a proven background in supporting users of a heterogeneous network and IT infrastructure, to join the Service Desk team at the European Bioinformatics Institute (EMBL-EBI).

The Service Desk team is part of IT & Technical Services. The team’s role is to provide IT and audio visual support to EMBL-EBI users, visitors from other EMBL sites, and guests. The team consists of 1st line Service Desk technicians and specialists. The specialists in the team are responsible for managing user devices and operating systems (Windows, macOS, Ubuntu), and infrastructure management tools (Active Directory, File Servers, DHCP, Munki). The team also supports scanning and printing, as well as supporting cloud applications such as Google Workspace and Slack.

Your role

In this role you will:

  • Manage and support Apple devices (macOS/iOS/iPadOS).
  • Administration of Jamf Pro and Jamf Protect.
  • Administration of support management tools such as Munki and AutoPkg.
  • Root cause analysis of hardware and software-related issues on user devices.
  • Documenting technical and administrative procedures and policies.
  • Working closely with suppliers.
  • Working closely with specialists, contributing to team projects and performing duties assigned by the IT Support Coordinator to ensure the whole team’s success.
  • Administration and support of desktop services (printing, Wifi, desk phones) and cloud applications (Google Workspace, Office365, Slack).
You have
  • A degree in Information Technology or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Jamf Pro certification, ideally Jamf 300 or Jamf 200 (with experience).
  • Experience with directory services such as Active Directory and/or LDAP.
  • Experience and knowledge of software package deployment tools such as Munki and AutoPkg.
  • Experience supporting Windows and Ubuntu devices.
  • Skills in Perl, Python or shell scripting.
  • Knowledge of Google Workspace and Office365.
  • Good understanding and knowledge of networks and security.
  • Familiarity with IT Service Management
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • A service-oriented mindset
You will have previous experience in similar roles, with a working knowledge and interest in technologies and the IT industry.
