Full-Time Program Manager (PROFYLE)

Job Description

ACCESS (Advancing Childhood Cancer Experience, Science & Survivorship) is a new CIHR-funded initiative (lead institution SickKids) to build a national childhood cancer strategy that will change the way children’s cancers are researched and treated. The mission of ACCESS is that every child with cancer in Canada has access to the latest scientific advances, diagnostic tools, therapies and supportive care leading to better outcomes and a better quality of life. ACCESS includes clinicians, researchers, survivors, patient advocates and other stakeholders from across Canada who have diverse experience and expertise.

We are currently seeking a Program Manager to join our team. This role will be to manage, coordinate and support the PRecision Oncology For Young peopLE (PROFYLE) driver project which has been newly amalgamated within ACCESS. PROFYLE is a national multidisciplinary program integrating basic, translational, and clinical research in childhood, adolescent and young adult oncology. In this role, you will be a key member of the ACCESS Secretariat and responsible for a range of administration, coordination, and management activities to facilitate the implementation of PROFYLE’s projects, research, academic, and outreach work.

The Program Manager will work closely with the ACCESS Secretariat and the interdisciplinary national network of people involved in the PROFYLE program and ACCESS. The national PROFYLE team members include experts in clinical care, genomics, modelling, proteomics, biomarker analysis, pathology, biobanking, bioinformatics, regulatory affairs, patient advocacy, and bioethics. Together, they have developed a common research platform for tissue bio-banking, disease modeling, and molecular profiling (including genomic sequencing) that builds on and complements the expertise in hospitals and research centres across Canada.

Reporting to the Director of ACCESS and working under the direction of the PROFYLE lead and the other leadership team members, the Program Manager will oversee the day-to-day operations of PROFYLE, manage and support program staff, facilitate the activation and conduct of the research program, and maintain partnerships with collaborating institutions and stakeholders across Canada and internationally. The Program Manager position requires a proactive and action-oriented individual with excellent organizational, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills. The ideal candidate has knowledge and expertise with the current state of cancer genetics and genomics, molecular biology and molecular profiling, research protocol review, data capture systems, legal and financial management and stakeholder management.

This will be a hybrid role (Remote work available with the need for in-person meetings with team members and stakeholders). All interested candidates are encouraged to apply.

KEY TASKS:

  • Organize and participate in leadership meetings for the PROFYLE program
  • Organize and facilitate regular PROFYLE group meetings for the stakeholder groups within the program; prepare meeting notes and identify action plans
  • Aid in the organization of ACCESS annual national meetings
  • Monitor interdepartmental and interinstitutional cost recoveries
  • Review and aid in the development of derivative research grant submissions to funding agencies and funding/fundraising requests to PROFYLE partners
  • Prepare annual and other required reports (progress reporting, etc.) for partner funding agencies/institutions and foundations
  • Support funding partners in their fundraising efforts (provide and/or revise information being used, seek needed resources, etc.)
  • Assess data capture needs for each study/project
  • Provide oversight of data coordination and study management
  • Support the request, review, approval processes for data and material sharing
  • Maintain knowledge of protocols and ensure applications are developed and submitted to amend the PROFYLE research ethics at all involved institutions
  • Organize scientific meetings, speakers presentations, etc.
  • Develop and maintain metrics used to measure projects success

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • At minimum, completion of a Master’s degree program or recognized equivalent in a health- or science-related discipline
  • A minimum of 3-5 years of progressive experience in project/program management, budget development and management, multistakeholder collaboration
  • Formal training in program management (PMP) is desirable
  • 5-7 years’ related clinical research experience and certification as a clinical research associate (e.g., SOCRA accreditation) would be an asset.
  • Demonstrated supervisory/management experience, overseeing full-time employees in a clinical research environment
  • Proven ability to work with great efficiency and to perform multiple concurrent tasks
  • Possess leadership and managerial skills and have recognized experience in these areas
  • High computer proficiency, familiarity of virtual meeting/conference programs (i.e., Zoom, Teams, etc.), and data collection and sharing tools (i.e., Microsoft 365 tools/apps, REDCap, REDCap Cloud, ATiM, CentraXX, etc.) is desirable
  • Excellent English communication skills, both written and verbal, to facilitate effective communications with other team members and to communicate with external collaborators and users.
  • French language skills are considered an asset
  • Strong conflict resolution, team building, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and pay attention to detail
  • Ability to perform duties in a professional and courteous manner and produce high quality work while meeting deadlines in accordance with institutional standards
