Location: Portland, occasional travel
Position Overview
As a key member of the development team, the Development Manager will provide comprehensive gift processing, manage donor relationship workflows, maintain the donor database and its reporting functions, help support the corporate sponsorship program, assist
with board and committee coordination, and document processes essential to the operations of the department. This is an administrative position and does not include the delivery of services to the community or direct engagement with youth. This position reports to the Development Director.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
The Development Manager performs a wide range of duties including but not limited to the following:
Fundraising Support
Manages all donation processing, receipting, acknowledging, and pledge activity from individuals and corporate partners
Coordinates mail merges for gift acknowledgement, appeals, and other mailings
Assists Development Director in processing and distributing direct mail appeals and other fundraising campaigns as needed
Supports external donor stewardship and communications
Updates and maintains detailed donor data in our CRM, handling confidential donor information with sensitivity, integrity, and accuracy
Works with Finance & Operations Coordinator to process monthly financial reconciliation
Ensures the timely and accurate reporting of donor data including basic list segmentation
Produces standard and custom reports that track fundraising progress and donor information
Sits on Development & Communications Committee and relevant sub-committees
Board Support
Coordinates board and committee meetings and selected committee assignments (online or in-person) with distribution of associated support materials (meeting notices, reminders, agendas, minutes, etc.)
Works with the Executive Director to prepare board materials and agendas
Works with Committee Chairs and Executive Director to prepare committee materials and agendas
Events Support
Assists with donor and sponsor outreach for fundraising events
Manages host committee and sponsorship gift processing
Coordinates with event vendors and other event partners as needed
Helps staff fundraising events (1 – 2 per year)
Qualifications – Required
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Meticulous attention to detail
Works both independently and as part of a team to achieve individual and common goals
Ability to efficiently manage multiple projects and deadlines
Excellent organizational skills and an ability to manage a variety tasks, logistics, and confidential materials simultaneously
Ease with learning new skills and/or software
Proficient in Google Workspace, Microsoft Word, and Microsoft Excel
A flexible and non-judgmental approach to people and work
Qualifications – Preferred
Experience with CRM or donor management software a plus
Advanced proficiency in Google Workspace and Microsoft Office, including Excel
Two (2) years of administrative, database, or nonprofit experience
Familiarity with gift processing and/or fundraising principles
Working Conditions
The Development Manager will usually work in an office environment, but the mission of the organization may sometimes take them to non-standard workplaces
The Development Manager will work a 35-hour week – and may be required to work some evenings and weekends to assist with the implementation of program activities or participate in organization-hosted events
The Telling Room’s Development Manager may schedule their 35 hour week in accordance with The Telling Room’s Flex-Time Policy
Access to car required and clean driving record as per employee handbook
Must be able to lift 25 pounds
Supervision
The Development Manager reports to the Development Director.
Compensation
The annual salary for this position is $42,451
