The Development Services Division of the Community Planning and Development Department (CPD) administers Denver’s building, fire and zoning codes through review, permitting, and inspection of all new development projects in Denver.

The Permit Review Technician II performs entry level plans review work and evaluates permit applications to determine if necessary multi-disciplinary code and plan submittal criteria have been met. In this position, you will work directly with contractors and property owners on a front counter, or over a phone and computer to initiate, intake, and login permit and application requests for a variety of permitting application types and uses.  This position helps our customers in understanding code, standards, permit, and/or plan submittal criteria.

 

Schedule: Monday through Friday. Hybrid – at least three days in office per week.

Starting Pay: $24-29/hour, based on education and experience
As the Permit Review Technician, you will:

  • Enter customer applications and profiles into permitting records systems, verify licenses and certifications, and ensure construction plans are submitted correctly
  • Review permit type and application requirements to ensure proper documents and forms are submitted and work with customers to address incomplete applications.  This may include scanning and logging in site development plans and other construction documents into the permitting system
  • Determine the nature of the permit or application requests to evaluate the permit type being requested such as with same day quick permits or complex permits and direct the customer to the proper permitting area and explain related permitting processes
  • Assist customers in obtaining permits once permit applications have been officially approved and fees collected
  • Research permit records, zoning regulations, historical documents, and a variety of databases to ensure accuracy of site plans, use of property, consolidating and correcting records, and maintaining files and documents
  • Prepare reports and documents based on business metrics within the work unit for management review or distribution within a network of departments and agencies that rely on the updated permit approvals and may calculate permit fees based on permit guidelines

  • Preferably have with Microsoft Office Suite and SharePoint; Familiarity with permit processing software such as Accela
  • Have experience interpreting and applying zoning and building codes, rules, and/or regulations to the public in a municipal setting – this is a plus, but not required
  • Bilingual is a plus (not required)

  • Education Requirement: Graduation from high school or the possession of a GED, HiSET or TASC Certificate
  • Experience Requirement: Four (4) years of experience reviewing requests and issuing permits for routine public right-of-way requests, non-technical construction projects with regard to building and zoning permits, or enforcement of building and zoning codes and regulations
  • Education & Experience Equivalency:  Additional appropriate education may be substituted for the minimum experience requirements
