Full-Time Bi-lingual Language Access Coordinator

Job Description

Primary Responsibility: To improve language access and immigration support for survivors of sexual assault, domestic violence, and stalking in Kansas. Ensuring equitable access to services with a focus on developing culturally appropriate approaches to reach underserved communities. Collaborating with other KCSDV projects to enhance language access within these projects, with an emphasis on improved language access to those who speak Spanish as their first language.

Specific duties: 

  • Develop and implement training and technical assistance with KCSDV project staff on language access plans, translation, interpreter processes, or other culturally responsive topics for member programs or allied professionals.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on assistance for immigrant survivors, offering insights into processes such as VAWA self-petitions, U-VISA, and T-VISA applications.
  • Develop and maintain partnerships with organizations and individuals providing legal representation for immigration-related processes.
  • Pursue becoming a Recognized Organizations and Accredited Representative (ROAR) from the Federal government, allowing limited assistance on immigration issues for survivors.
  • Collaborate with KCSDV staff to ensure that training and resources are accessible to individuals with disabilities, including those who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing, by providing ASL interpretation, captioning, and screen-reader accessible formats.
  • Collaborate with KCSDV to ensure language interpreters are available to those who speak languages other than English and have requested an accommodation.
  • Collaborate with KCSDV project staff to develop and implement strategies to enhance accessibility of digital products and virtual training materials in plain language, screen-reader accessible formats, or in languages other than English, as requested.
  • Remain informed about emerging best practices and legal developments related to language access and immigrant survivor assistance.
  • Provide technical assistance (written and verbal communication) to survivors, advocates, and allied professionals on these issues.
  • Assist with other KCSDV duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required: Bilingual in Spanish language. Ability to work in a team environment. Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality. Ability to travel and have means of own transportation. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Preferred: Previous experience providing survivor assistance preferred. Experience in addressing language barriers and implementing strategies for language access. Proficiency in collaborating with diverse stakeholders and partnering with organizations providing legal representation. Knowledge of or the ability to gain knowledge of immigration-related processes. Knowledge of or the ability to gain knowledge of plain language principles and accessibility standards.
