Full-Time Senior Product Manager, Valuation
Job Description
The Real Estate Valuation Senior Product Manager will lead the discovery, definition, roadmap planning, and the building and launch of a new AI-enabled property tax-focused valuation solution. You will work closely with the geospatial data science and development teams to perform vendor analysis, data selection, data modeling, AI model creation and tuning, and user experience refinement. Together, you will build a novel tool that automates the complex world of real estate valuation and uniformity analysis for residential and commercial properties. The tool(s) you help define, plan, and build will drive high levels of automation and efficiency, enabling the global growth and scale of Avalara’s property tax offerings.
*We’re opening this role to candidates located in commuting distance from our Durham, NC office as this will be a hybrid role.*
- Provide leadership and domain knowledge in valuation and real property taxation.
- Evaluate and manage data vendor sources and work closely with technical and procurement teams to ensure that necessary source data is acquired and maintained.
- Manage the delivery of products, including PoC, internal Beta, internal launch, and ongoing releases.
- Proactively work with customers to acquire a deep understanding of their requirements & business needs.
- Research and write detailed product requirements, including but not limited to user stories for engineering to execute against.
- Develop evidentiary-based product justification, particularly for new features or product launches.
- Ensure commitments of product delivery timelines across the organization.
- Define and analyze metrics that inform the success of products.
- Develop and maintain relationships with key decision-makers across the organization.
- You have experience and expertise in both residential and commercial real estate valuation concepts.
- You have experience with financial products and services.
- You have worked on data analysis and artificial intelligence products and projects.
- You are fluent in basic data science concepts and are comfortable interacting with data scientists and software development teams on a technical level.
- You are familiar with geospatial data and software.
- Well-versed in agile methodologies and tools – including Confluence, Jira, and Slack – and experience working in an agile/scrum environment.
- You have experience with writing detailed requirements.
- Experience gained within similar verticals – FinTech / FS, Property Tax, or Real estate valuation/assessment.
- Adept at developing and delivering complex products at high velocity and with aggressive deadlines
- Strong analytical approach, with attention to detail and excellent reporting skills
- Ability to communicate and manage stakeholder relationships effectively, internally and externally
What you’ll bring to the role….
- 4+ years of experience as a product manager or product owner working on multiple products with different challenges and opportunities
- Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field (accounting, business, data science, mathematics, or computer science); MBA or relevant advanced degree is desirable
- Experience working on SaaS products with customer bases that span small business owners, SMB, and enterprise
- Hands-on experience using major analytics and data tools; experience with Python, PostgreSQL, AWS, Alteryx, Linux environments is a plus
- A “roll your sleeves up” mentality to get work done, independent of job title or level
