Job Summary:

 

The Donor Relations Officer is part of the Annual Fund team and supports a comprehensive fundraising strategy to retain and upgrade mid-level donors giving $1,000 – $4,999 annually to United Way of King County (UWKC).  This is a critical gift range driving important revenue to fuel the organization’s mission. The Donor Relations Officer plans and implements all elements of an annual fund strategy within specific donor segments in combination with 1:1 relationship building to raise financial and volunteer resources.

This position will work to increase donor retention and move donors up the pipeline from multiple channels, including workplace giving campaigns, online giving, events, cross-departmental and volunteer collaboration, and 1:1 relationship building. The Donor Relations Officer position has been recently reimagined and moved to the Annual Fund team, and there is room for flexibility and creativity in how to segment and steward this donor group.

Compensation:

 

The starting pay scale range for the first year of employment is $73,352.00 to $81,073.00 with eligibility to earn 3% after successfully completing the employee’s six month onboarding period.

Essential Duties

 

  • Cultivates relationships with a portfolio of around 1200 household donors giving $1,000 – $4,999 annually by working with donors to provide updates and stewardship, and to ask them to deepen their financial partnership with UWKC.
  • Uses data analysis, annual fund strategies and Click Dimensions marketing tool to communicate with donors via group segmentations as well as 1:1 relationship building.
  • Identifies, cultivates, and solicits new major gift prospects from within the assigned portfolio, and collaborates with the Associate Major Gifts Officer to seamlessly transition these prospects into their portfolio.
  • Is a collaborative team member of the Annual Fund team (donors range from $10 – $4,999) by giving strategic input and idea generation, supporting new donor and event follow up calls, attending events, and other donor projects as identified.
  • Serves as a leader with Brand & Marketing colleagues in collaborating on the communication strategy, event strategy, and stewardship materials for Change Maker donors giving $1,200 – $9,999 per year.
  • Helps to identify planned gift prospects and elevate asset giving to all donors.
  • Makes occasional face-to-face donor meetings for cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship purposes.
  • Actively seeks out collaboration, webinars, conferences and learning opportunities to gain innovative and proven donor stewardship strategies.
  • Tracks donor movement, significant activities and donor information in Microsoft CRM and other tracking systems.
  • Ensures that racial equity is integrated across all fundraising activities.
  • Understands UWKC’s mission, vision, and programs and effectively communicates key information to donors, and has a desire to lean into community-centric fundraising.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

 

  • Demonstrated understanding of social and racial justice and equity, with a proven commitment to apply racial and economic justice lenses in both personal and workplace contexts.
  • Lived experience and/or demonstrated professional skills working within a diverse work environment.
  • Demonstrated success in fundraising and volunteer management with excellent 1:1 relationship-building skills with both sophisticated donors and those new to giving.
  • Proven ability to utilize and analyze data to create and steward donor segments.
  • Proven attention to detail, initiative, and effective project management skills.
  • Commitment to a growth and learner mindset specifically regarding donor stewardship and community centric fundraising.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, including ability to present to diverse audiences and have external conversations regarding racial equity in UWKC’s work.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain positive relationships and actively contribute as a member of working teams to achieve results.
  • Proven effective critical thinking and problem-solving skills, along with the ability to obtain, analyze, and evaluate information effectively in the face of ambiguity, and to make appropriate decisions based on relevant information and experience.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and excels at building relationships in any environment and enjoys connecting with people and diverse audiences.
  • Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office and donor database knowledge.

 

Education and/or Experience:

 

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in fundraising or a related field.  Must have at least three years of experience in development and stewarding donors. Annual fund giving management experience and/or experience with fundraising techniques to substantially upgrade individual donors preferred. Experience analyzing data, creating appealing programs, and attracting support from stakeholders highly desired.
