SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES
Located just outside of Seattle, WA, Lake Washington Institute of Technology (LWTech) was founded in 1949, and is the only public institute of technology in Washington State, that provides students with the latest cutting edge skills relevant to today’s workplace. LWTech offers ten applied bachelor’s degrees, more than 40 associate degrees and 93 professional certificates, in 43 areas of study, including STEM-focused programs in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. Summary of Responsibilities
The Assistant Director of Advising and Disability Support Services is responsible for managing the disability support services program, providing daily support and guidance to the front desk, and supporting the advising program. The assistant director must hire and supervise sign language interpreters as well as hire, supervise, train, and evaluate student employees. This is a contracted, exempt management position that reports to the director of advising and disability support services.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Essential Functions – General

• Support the director in implement advising and disability support programs that meet the needs of a diverse student body and intentionally aim to eliminate student achievement gaps between different demographic groups.
• Participate in student services division leadership meetings
• Ensure consistent process improvement and seek efficiency for all areas of responsibility
• Gather, compile, and analyze data; develop reports for senior leadership
• Interpret and communicate policies, procedures, and processes to meet student needs
• Represent the college to external organizations; participate in college leadership activities
• Supervise, train, and evaluate assigned staff; in conjunction with staff develop and monitor annual growth/professional development plans; back up other college staff as necessary
• Bring issues, ideas and innovative practice ideas, and new technologies to director for consideration and implementation
• Submit CARE reports when appropriate; attend CARE Team meetings
• Assist the director and other college administrators as necessary
• Assume all responsibilities of the director in the director’s absence
• Assume and effectively discharge other duties as assigned

Essential Functions – Advising

• Apply holistic advising practices with an EDI perspective/lens; assist director in leading the advising team with these practices
• Assist director with implementation of college wide advising initiatives and support college wide retention efforts to promote student academic success and student engagement.
• Assist the director with advising operations, policies and procedures including scheduling and availability of advisors, equity-minded training, managing, supervising (in absence of the director), promoting equity, diversity and inclusion within the advising team.
• Assist the director with facilitating the communication of course, program and degree changes to other departments within the division
• Maintain advising caseloads as well as other responsibilities including handling complex or escalated referrals from advisors or other staff
• Refer students to other campus resources using a warm handoff method
• Represent director of advising and the department at college and statewide meetings when necessary
• Assist in coordinating and delivering of academic advising services for students
• Advise students accurately in assigned caseloads on course and major selection, prepare academic plans for students, campus resources, support students in navigating college policies, procedures, and transfer processes
• Develop trainings and support materials for faculty and staff about academic advising and advising resources
• Prepare and deliver workshops or presentations about resources for faculty, staff and students in related to academic advising and disability support services
• Collaborate with faculty advisors and departmental colleagues to provide seamless advising for students
• Other duties as assigned

Essential Functions – Disability Support Services

• Be a subject matter expert in the team regarding accommodations provision as well as to the college community
• Conduct accommodation intake/access meetings and manage advising caseloads
• Meet with students with a wide variety of disabilities and access barriers to determine accommodations
• Determine reasonable accommodations utilizing student self-report, professional judgement, and medical or educational records
• Appropriately document all student interactions in DSS Online Portal/ Accessible Information Management database as well as other student record keeping software such as Starfish/EAB
• Provide support and continued partnership with the Assessment Center for accommodated proctoring needs
• Ensure effective communication between students registered with DSS, Assessment Center, and faculty
• Communicate with students regarding their accommodations, the accommodation request process, and the procedures for using accommodations
• Advocate and communicate with faculty regarding appropriate implementation of accommodations in the classroom
• Resolve accommodation issues between students and faculty and consult with the director when appropriate
• Communicate with faculty on Deaf and Hard of Hearing students and accommodations
• Invoice, contract, track accommodations spending, and budget management
• Manage all contract processes for the DSS utilizing college processes and ctcLink data management system including American Sign Language, CART/ Real time captioning, Alternative Formats and Braille services Contracts

QUALIFICATIONS
Sufficient combination of education, work, and lived experience to demonstrate ability to meet the following expectations (generally, competitive candidates will have a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Disability Studies, Deaf Studies, Psychology, Higher Education, Education, Social Work, Human Services, or related field and two or more years of work experience in higher education or a related field):

• Direct experience providing disability support services in a college setting
• Experience working in the community or technical college setting

Compensation & Work Schedule Initial salary placement is $7,234 per month. This is a 40-hours per week, exempt position.
