Full-Time Financial Systems Analyst

Thompson Coburn, a large full-service law firm with offices in seven (7) cities across the U.S., is in search of an Financial Systems Analyst to fill a full-time exempt position in its St. Louis office. Under the leadership of the Financial Systems Manager, the Financial Systems Analyst will support business report development and provide both quality assurance and analysis services for all attorneys and staff firmwide. The person selected for the position must be accustomed to working in a fast-paced environment. After an initial period of in-office training, this position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule.

  • At least three (3) years of experience using computer applications to extract, analyze, and report business data, preferably in a professional services environment, required.
  • Computer database management (SQL), Microsoft Access, software development, or programming skills a plus.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a business field such as business management, finance, accounting, or economics required.
Job Responsibilities
  • Supports all analytic efforts for business report development, quality assurance and analysis. Efforts include but are not limited to development, testing, sign-off, documentation, roll-out and training.
  •  Prepares and distributes instructions concerning generation, completion and distribution of reports according to new or revised practices, procedures or policies of report management.
  • Comprehends system changes as they affect data, reports and reporting systems.
  • Interacts with requestor to define report issues and deliverables including needs, timing and distribution and then devises solutions that align with policies and system and security protocols.
  • Seeks out and develops procedural and operational improvements for business office reporting and documents systems and processes for reports.
  • Designs, implements, and maintains custom reporting and data-extracting solutions and financial software applications.
  • Designs, codes, and tests financial data applications.
  • Ensures appropriate written procedures and documentation is created and maintained for business continuity purposes.
  • Troubleshoots complex problems and implements appropriate solutions.
  • Consults with technical staff, users, outside consultants and vendors, as appropriate, to refine the scope and definition of assigned projects to ensure successful completion in a timely manner.
  • Performs ad hoc analytical requests and research projects and other special projects as assigned by management.
  • Maintains data integrity in systems by generating queries and analyzing data to resolve data issues related to reporting.
  • Researches, conducts testing and troubleshoots issues for new and existing software applications.
  • Serves as liaison with internal IT and third party software providers to prepare and enhance requests for ad hoc reports and analyses by developing end-user business requirements into user-friendly applications.
  • Communicates with vendors, professional organizations and users to stay abreast of business reporting trends and practices.
  • Develops and maintains library of reporting tools and reports.
  • Coordinates preparation and enhancement of client accounting reports, inquiries and data analysis tools.
  • Serves as Subject Matter Expert for Business Office to respond to questions about computer basis, including Microsoft Office Suite, internally created solutions, and third party software applications.
  • Serves as back-up to manage data transfer process between financial software applications.
  • Serves as back-up for foreign vendor transaction processing.
Job Requirements
  • Must possess a high level of professionalism and interpersonal skills so as to be able to work well with employees at all levels within the organization and maintain all information in the strictest of confidence.  Required to use tact and diplomacy when dealing with others.
  •  Must have ability to read, write and communicate fluent English; ability to compose documents in the appropriate business style using correct grammar and spelling; ability to communicate clearly using proper grammar and diction over the telephone.
  • Must possess strong reasoning, critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Must be adept at collecting information through advanced communication, questioning and interviewing techniques.
  • Must possess attention to detail, ability to balance multiple projects and have strong time management skills.
  • Must have ability to reason and apply common-sense understanding to situations encountered.
  • Ability to process routine daily functions while being able to resolve sensitive issues and complex assignments utilizing above average critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to understand various aspects of business, such as accounting, billing or invoicing, accounts receivable.
  • This is a full-time position which requires working a minimum of 40 hours per week on a regular basis. Oftentimes, it may also include working outside of normal business hours to ensure completion of position requirements.
  • Ability to travel as required.
  • The physical demands of this position are representative of those that might be met by an employee in order for him or her to successfully perform the essential functions of the position.  These include being both mobile and stationary throughout the workday, having the ability to transport 20 pounds and being able to operate a computer and other business equipment found in the office.
