Full-Time Digital Evidence Technician
Job Description
The City of Oshkosh, Wisconsin is searching for a full-time Digital Evidence Technician for the Oshkosh Police Department. This is a non-sworn, non-supervisory position under the direct supervision of the Captain of the Operations Bureau.
This position is primarily responsible for the collection and preservation of digital/electronic evidence, investigation and analysis to detect and track criminal activity that takes place on digital devices, computers, other technological devices, the internet and social media, and other special projects and various reports. This technical and specialized position must have the highest professional, ethical and moral standards in performing this work given the often-sensitive nature of the information accessed and collected as evidence.
This position requires a high degree of investigative knowledge; to prepare complete, detailed written reports of all investigations in a timely manner; to assist sworn personnel in presenting reports to the offices of the District Attorney, State Attorney General, or United States Attorney for review for the issuance of search warrants, subpoenas or criminal charges; to provide information for sworn personnel to arrest persons named in warrants or when probable cause exists for the arrest; and to testify in court. This position also performs a combination of analysis and support duties of great complexity and requires the mastery of techniques and tools in their assigned area, and is required to ensure the security of systems and confidential data in compliance with all rules and regulations.
Qualified Candidates:
- Associate’s Degree in Computer Science, Forensic Science, Criminal Justice, or a related field; Bachelor’s Degree is preferred;
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in data extraction, digital photo editing and with related software is preferred.
