Casa Nuestra is an emergency shelter for youth with justice or child welfare contact, or at risk of homelessness who need temporary housing to avoid detention while waiting for more permanent housing, placement, or reunification with parent or guardian after a crisis event. Casa Nuestra will be available to youth who have either been arrested and/or referred to San Diego County’s Alternatives to Detention (ATD) or the Community Assessment Team or Juvenile Diversion (CAT/JD), as well as homeless youth referred by community entities (e.g., churches, schools) or youth on Probation (Ward).

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The Youth and Family Development Associate (YFDA) reports to the Program Coordinator and Program Director and is responsible for providing services to youth who reside at Casa Nuestra as part of SBCS’s Alternatives to Detention (ATD) or Community Assessment Team (CAT) program. The YFDA’s primary responsibility is to provide case management for each youth residing at Casa Nuestra. YFDA are responsible for working with the team in developing team goals and objectives and in meeting those goals and objectives, including but not limited to:

• Complete comprehensive family-based assessments for identified youth and develop treatment plans including goals and objectives.
• Create and maintain a safe, welcoming, and therapeutic environment through interactions with youth and staff.
• Onboard youth including completing all intake forms, conducting family-based assessments, orienting youth to Casa Nuestra’s rules, expectations, staff, and other residents.
• Provide trauma informed case management services, and other services relative to program goals and objectives agreed upon with the client based on the assessment.
• Completion of all Administration Certification training modules, pass examination and maintain valid Administration Certification.
• Provide case management for non-Casa Nuestra youth as needed when assigned cases.
• Schedule includes working some evening hours including weekends as needed.
• Maintain case records and client files as required by SBCS and its funding sources.
• Ensure all CCL regulations/requirements are upheld.
• Participate in Multi-Disciplinary Team meetings with other team members.
• Appropriate coordination of contacts with other public and private organizations and individuals, as necessary to effectively serve clients. (e.g. progress reports to referral sources, client referrals to other agencies).
• Complete room checks as needed.
• Provide support and crisis intervention through trauma-informed care.
• Complete monthly statistical reports of services provided as required by SBCS.
• Facilitate group meetings Positive Youth Development curriculums.
• Support and assist youth with their basic shelter needs as they arise (ex. questions, concerns, hygiene supplies, cleaning supplies, bedding, food and more)
• Participation in special projects and activities related to agency’s goals and objectives.
• Participation in agency special events, such as fundraisers, annual meetings, and open houses.
• Participation and assistance in implementing program components.
• Other duties as assigned by the Department Director and/or Program Director.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree required in psychology, sociology, criminal justice, social work, or closely related field.
• Minimum 1-2 years of experience in child, youth, and family services field. Experience should preferably have been in a community based or neighborhood service organization.
• Experience in the areas of individual, group, and family counseling, school-based services, outreach, community education and development, advocacy, and case management.
• Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred, but not required.
• Ability to work with a diverse population, possess cultural sensitivity, and maintain appropriate boundaries with clients.

• Employment may be conditioned upon satisfactory completion of certain background clearances which may include a Department of Justice criminal background check requiring my fingerprints (Live Scan), Probation Clearances, Community Care Licensing Clearances, Child Abuse Central Index Check (CACI), screening through the National Sex Offender Public Website, physical exam, drug test, tuberculosis (TB) test, Immunizations (TDAP, MMR, Influenza) and such additional clearances as may be required under the program.
• Candidates/employees who have received a conditional offer of employment will be required to undergo testing for controlled substances, (including THC and CBD), in accordance with the County of San Diego’s drug and alcohol policy and the federal Controlled Substances Act.
• Candidate is required to have reliable transportation; therefore, the candidate must successfully complete a motor vehicle history check. Candidate must also possess and maintain a current valid California driver’s license and valid auto insurance policy.

• Pulling: Exerting force upon an object so that the object moves toward the force (includes jerking)
• Climbing: Ascending or descending stairs, using feet and legs or hands and arms. Body agility is emphasized.
• Balancing: Maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling when walking, standing, crouching.
• Stooping: Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist, requiring full use of the lower extremities and back muscles.
• Handling: Seizing, holding, grasping, turning, or otherwise working with hand or hands. Fingers are involved only to the extent that they are an extension of the hand.
• Finger Movement: Picking, pinching, or otherwise working primarily with fingers rather than with the whole hand or arm as in handling.
• Talking: Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. Talking is important for those activities in which workers must impart oral information to clients or to the public, and in those activities in which they must convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly.
