About WomenCount:

WomenCount and the Electing Women Alliance (EWA) work in partnership to close the political gender giving gap and inspire more donors to support Democratic women up and down the ballot. Our shared mission is to build communities of informed, intentional donors who come together to elect more women. Although there has been some progress in recent election cycles, women still make up only 28 percent of Congress and 24 percent of governorships. The US ranks 71st in the world in the number of women in elected office. And while women candidates rely more heavily on women donors, women make up only 38 percent of all donors.

WomenCount is an online donation platform that supports Democratic women up and down the ballot – from school board to president. EWA is a national network of giving groups that host in-person events for Senate, governor, and the White House. While WomenCount and EWA are separate efforts, they partner regularly and share mission and vision, team members, and operations.

About the Position:

The Engagement & Communications Manager is a new position that will have responsibilities both for WomenCount and EWA. This role seeks to raise awareness about our work and increase engagement across multiple audiences, including donors, candidates, other organizations, key stakeholders in the political ecosystem, and digital communities. Although WomenCount and EWA have existed for several election cycles, both efforts are undergoing major expansion. Communications and engagement are a central priority of this next phase of our evolution, and the person in this role will have an opportunity to help develop the strategy for our plans to increase engagement.

Specific opportunities and responsibilities:

  • At the outset, there is a need to assess and explore our current efforts and activities with regard to outreach, partnerships, engagement, and social media. The candidate will lead this “discovery” phase of the scope and have a major voice in developing the strategy.
  • Build and oversee partnerships with other organizations, candidates, and donors who are critical to the growth of both WomenCount and EWA.
  • Spread the word and build awareness – about our work, women candidates, and women donors – through media opportunities, op-ed placements, social media, etc.
  • Identify opportunities to include WomenCount and EWA in broader conversations, including conferences, speaking engagements, etc.
  • Deploy high-level, data-driven research to build the case for why it matters to have more women in office, and why it matters to have more women donors supporting women candidates.
  • Help foster and build our “donors as raisers” efforts to compel current donors to leverage their own networks in support of our candidates, with a particular eye toward state and local candidates. This aspect of the role is directly connected to the ways WomenCount supports EWA, and vice versa.

Attributes and qualifications:

Women of color are encouraged to apply. We recognize that no candidate has all of the following attributes so we encourage you to apply if you have many or most:

  • Three to five years of experience in communications, social media, outreach, or similar;
  • A track record of commitment to women’s leadership and empowerment;
  • Experience in successfully engaging various stakeholders, such as external partnerships, high-level donors, and party committees;
  • Excellent writing, editing, and speaking experience across a wide range of audiences and platforms;
  • Proficient knowledge of social media platforms, engagement, and marketing;
  • Curiosity and general knowledge of political landscape and elections;
  • Outstanding personal and relationship management skills;
  • Strong experience asserting and defending an organizational brand, and training others in brand style and guidelines;
  • Ability and desire to hustle, think proactively, take initiative, and be a self-starter;
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills;
  • Willingness to travel for annual convenings, Democratic party convention, in-person team gatherings, etc.
  • Existing relationships and connections within the political, non-profit and advocacy sectors is preferable;
  • Experience with search engine optimization and marketing, Google Analytics, or other analytics skills is preferred;
  • Commitment to working collaboratively in an inclusive and collegial workplace.

WomenCount and EWA are committed to nondiscrimination on the basis of race, color, religion, national origin, gender, gender expression, marital status, pregnancy, age, disability, or veteran’s status.

Compensation:

This is a full-time position with a salary range of $65,000 – $85,000 commensurate with experience. WomenCount offers benefits that include health insurance, paid holidays, and vacation. We are also looking forward to building out a more developed benefits package in the future.

Our teams across organizations and the EWA are largely remote and distributed across the country. Those that are close to our Palo Alto office can choose to work in person or on a hybrid basis. This role also involves some expected travel.

At WomenCount we like to get things done, while also valuing each others’ time and work-life balance. We typically work flexible hours in both remote and hybrid environments.

Overview of hiring process:

  • Submit resume and application responses (in lieu of cover letter).
  • Initial interview.
  • Complete an assigned exercise.
  • Final interviews.

Our goal is for our new Manager of Engagement & Communications to join the team by October 2023.
