ActionAid UK is a member of the ActionAid Federation, an international charity that works with women and girls living in poverty.    As part of the ActionAid Federation, we work with women and girls, our partners, and dedicated staff in 43 countries to end violence and fight poverty so that all women, everywhere, can create the future they want.  The Bretton Woods Project (BWP) is an ActionAid UK-hosted project which operates with agreed programming independence of ActionAid UK.

BWP acts as a watchdog by monitoring the World Bank and IMF, with a particular focus on the impact of Bank and Fund policies and activities on the environment, human rights and democratic governance. The Project builds and maintains an information and evidence base and are a credible critical voice on the work of the Bank and Fund and on their role in the broader international finance landscape.

BWP seeks a committed climate justice advocate to work under the supervision of BWP’s Environment Project Manager. The selected candidate will support the Project’s World Bank-focused environment and climate advocacy project, including through conducting new research on World Bank climate and energy policies. They will also play a supporting role on the Project’s climate advocacy on the International Monetary Fund, including through assisting in the development of a campaign to reform how IMF Special Drawing Rights can be used to better serve developing countries’ climate and development financing needs.

This role entails helping the development of advocacy strategies, representing BWP in advocacy with senior officials and engagements with civil society communities, and producing high-quality research outputs. The position also involves monitoring key developments at the World Bank and IMF, contributing to joint BWP outputs such as the Observer and Dispatch, and to the institutional strengthening of BWP.

We are particularly keen to hear from candidates with the following experience:

  • Understanding of climate policy and climate finance issues
  • Familiarity with current international climate justice policy debates, particularly as they relate to international development policy
  • Proven experience of producing high‐quality, timely research
  • Experience writing articles, policy briefings, reports and background briefs in a variety of styles for different audiences
  • Undergraduate degree or higher in climate change, development or economics-related university course or relevant equivalent experience
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English

The role may require periodic travel, including to the World Bank and IMF Spring and Annual Meetings, and events hosted by civil society partners.
