Summary of the Business Development Director (EMEA) role

As the Business Development Director for the EMEA region you will report directly to the Vice President (VP) of Business Development.

You will establish and develop relationships with existing and prospective clients to understand their business objectives and priorities, seeking alignment with Sterling’s capabilities and bringing forward opportunities for partnership.

These activities are accomplished through direction, delivery and optimisation of development services and custom manufacturing facility sales for th e Sterling commercial team (Marketing, Partnership Management and Commercial Operations) to ensure the service Sterling delivers is in line with our values of being transparent, being reliable, being caring and being willing.

This is a remote working role with up to 50% travel required.

Your responsibilities

  • Growing sales and profits for the business units through direct sales.
  • Developing new accounts in cooperation with the business and technical teams.
  • Establishing and maintaining high level relationships at key accounts.
  • In agreement with business directors negotiating significant business contracts and opportunities.
  • Preparing and achieving sales forecasts.
  • Executing the pricing strategy within agreed guidelines.
  • Supporting participation in major trade shows.
  • Providing competitive market data.
  • Interacting with technical services to provide total sales/technical service representation to customers.
  • Recommending and implementing sales tools.
  • Interacting with internal and external stakeholders, being able to represent technical details.

Requirements for the role

  • Degree qualified in a scientific discipline is preferred.
  • Pharmaceutical, biotech or fine chemical industry experience is required.
  • Previous experience in a professional customer facing sales role is required.
  • Knowledge of the latest consultive selling techniques.
  • Good problem solving and presentation skills.
  • Capable of managing several complex projects simultaneously.
  • Good commercial judgement and customer awareness.
  • Good interpersonal skills with an ability to negotiate both internally and externally.
  • Knowledge of multiple GMP validated systems and strong business acumen to understand contracts and financial impacts.
