Denver Botanic Gardens is currently seeking a Full Time Adult Education Assistant Manager in our Education Department! Read below to see if the requirements might be a good fit for you:

Position Summary

This position manages and supports a variety of adult and public programs, including, but not limited to, classes, events, lectures, tours, group travel, symposia, and other educational experiences. Adult education program content includes, but is not limited to, home gardening, plant crafts or garden arts, biodiversity, conservation, science, health and wellness, horticulture therapy and other topics that connect people with plants. Additionally, the Assistant Manager develops and revises programs, coordinates program logistics, manages resources, keeps accurate records, communicates with instructors and participants, and supports the Gardens’ efforts.

Requirements

General Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develops, plans and implements adult and public certificate and non-certificate programs in coordination with Education Department Staff and goals.
  • Manages schedule, record, and communicate programs, facilities, instructors, resources, contract requirements, registrations and other data.
  • Monitors or supervise the work of independent contractors and others as they teach, assist, perform or otherwise work on classes and programs.
  • Writes course descriptions, curricula, brochures, fliers and other materials.
  • Communicates programs offered, track progress in class registration, post class opportunities online and follow established marketing procedures.
  • Analyze and communicate the effects or results of programs, efforts and initiatives to further departmental and institutional goals.
  • Coordinates and supervises volunteers as part of the Education team, including regular information-sharing and communication.
  • Coordinates and implements volunteer training sessions specific to adult education
  • Maintains files, keeps records, and prepare reports as needed.
  • Identifies partnership opportunities and foster relationships for programming.
  • Researches and resolves disputes and problems within established guidelines.
  • Assists the marketing and education teams in developing and improving marketing plans and strategies.
  • Organizes, schedule and facilitate assigned programs in partnership with other departments, including but not limited to horticulture therapy and therapeutic horticulture.
  • Delivers presentations, trainings and programs as needed.
  • Works with all departments to assure highest quality experience for all DBG visitors.
  • Maintains satisfactory working relationships with managers, co-workers and others.
  • Maintains a positive, helpful and solution-oriented demeanor when responding to or serving members and visitors.
  • Regular attendance at the worksite may be required. As with all positions at Denver Botanic Gardens, the incumbent must be in good performance standing to be eligible for remote work. Remote work is at the discretion of management at all times.

Position Qualifications: Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to track, and work to complete budgetary goals set by supervisor by maintaining up-to-date records and spreadsheets.
  • Must have proven excellent customer service, interpersonal, and communication skills in dealing with the public.
  • Ability to maintain stability under pressure and able to deal well with stressful situations.
  • Ability to be flexible and willing to modify plans when necessary, throughout the day.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends and/or holidays.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Suite products, specifically Word, Excel and Outlook and Teams.
  • Ability to work overtime as necessary.
  • Must be a positive representative of the Gardens both internally and externally at all times.
  • Must work with respect and cooperation at all times with fellow employees and the public.
  • Must be committed to working safely at all times.

Experience/Education:

  • High school diploma / GED and/or combination of education and equivalent experience is required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of related experience, extensive teaching or coordinating experience is preferred, including previous experience in formal community or higher education, school settings, or informal education at gardens or museums.
