The Challenge
We are looking for an Assistant Traffic Engineer to join our Winston-Salem Traffic Services team.
 
In this role, you will:
    • Review traffic impact analysis and project plans.
    • Perform general safety and mobility traffic studies.
    • Coordinate and inspect projects under design and construction that the Traffic unit is overseeing.
    • Attend traffic impact meetings.
    • Coordinate NCDOT Traffic Signing and Pavement Marking group operations.
    • Lead junior staff in applying traffic engineering principles in the operation/maintenance of traffic control devices.
    • Perform traffic engineering investigations, evaluate the safety/operation of roadway systems and recommend adjustments.
    • Make recommendations and seek funds for safety and operational improvements.
    • Conduct traffic investigations.
What You Bring
    • Experience planning, developing, scheduling, tracking, and completing engineering projects independently or with limited supervision.
    • Knowledge and understanding of engineering concepts, practices, and theories used in traffic engineering.
    • Experience applying engineering concepts to solve complex problems.
    • You work great in a team environment to complete assignments.
    • Experience reviewing engineered plans/details to determine compliance/compatibility with traffic and engineering principles.
    • Professional engineering skills and knowledge to perform and evaluate investigations such as requests for speed limit modifications, pavement marking modifications, and safety studies.
    • Thorough knowledge of the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD).
    • Capable of promoting safety and safe working environments.
    • Excellent communication skills to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, staff, and the public.
    • Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle.
    • Safety toe shoes.
Note
    • We may require registration as a professional engineer by the NC Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors.
Education and Experience
    • Bachelor’s degree in engineering; or
    • An equivalent combination of training and experience.
