COUNTER ATTENDANT

Salary Range: $Min Wage per hour (DOE and State) + MSC

Average hourly wage with MSC = $25 to $30 per hour

The Counter Attendant is the primary guest point of contact for the counter. Counter Attendants ensure that excellent quality and superb service is enjoyed by all of our guests.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Other duties may be assigned.

  • Report for duty on time and ensure you use the time clock to check in and out. Manage your time, including taking rest and meal breaks in compliance with California Labor Law. Keep the Manager informed when you leave the kitchen.
  • Maintain high standards of appearance and hygiene that include clean clothes, nails and hair and no heavy perfumes/colognes.
  • Knowledge of all dishes on the menu, to be able to identify them and to know their ingredients
  • Adhere to all health, safety, alcohol control and sanitation protocols
  • Takes guests orders in Point of Sale – “POS”
  • Always suggests product alternatives to enhance guest food experience.
  • Completes sales transactions in an accurate and timely manner
  • Organize, clean, and maintain all areas of counter.
  • Prepare the floor at the opening and closing of each shift; stocking, cleaning, and preparing for service
  • Prepare coffee and soft drink orders in accordance to all recipes provided by Gjelina Management
  • Assist the bartender with stocking and restocking the bar, fulfilling orders, and clearing the bar
  • Attend to guest needs at the bar, and all tables on the floor
  • Communicate clearly with expo and managers to support with service
  • Know our regulars and encourage our new guests to become regulars by establishing a rapport that includes the guests’ likes and dislikes.
  • Smile and maintain eye contact with our guests, and always provide prompt, attentive service. Greet/Thank all customers as they enter/exit the space.
  • Ensure all stations are equipped for service. .
  • Assist others with stations when needed.
  • Maintain station throughout the shift, keep spaces clean and tidy, includes wiping down cases and all surfaces, and restocking throughout the day.
  • Attend pre-shift meeting to find out the changes on the menu, 86s, and Chef’s aesthetic for new dishes.
  • Be in command of service behind the counter. Focus on taking orders and ensure all customers have been greeted/assisted.
  • Respond to any menu/drinks queries with knowledgeable answers. Have a thorough understanding of all menu items and overall aesthetics.
  • Deal with any service issues through your floor manager and communicate any unresolved issues to them at the end of the shift.
  • Supporting the management team in all aspects of in-house service and events
  • Prepare stations at the opening and closing of each shift; stocking, cleaning, and preparing for service
  • Understand the right of way (guests, counter, and staff)
  • Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor / manager

QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.   • Minimum 1-2 years restaurant or related experience (preferred).

  • Ability to prioritize work activities, provide accurate information and assistance to any management or colleagues’ request in a timely and courteous manner

  • Knowledge of proper food handling.
  • Knowledge and use of kitchen forms/systems.
  • High School education, diploma (or in process) or GED, preferred.
  • Food Handler Certification – Food Handling & Sanitation Awareness, desired
  • Must understand how to abide by the rules of the Department of Health related to Food Service.

While performing the duties of this job, the position is regularly required to stand and walk for long periods of time. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 15 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 35 pounds. Ability to work with restaurant equipment and dishware (food warmers, ovens, fryers, knives, pots, plates, and pans, etc.). Bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, grasping, pinching, smelling, tasting, reaching/lifting above shoulders in a repetitive manner, use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. Ability to work with cleaning solutions. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
