SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES

Located just outside of Seattle, WA, Lake Washington Institute of Technology (LWTech) was founded in 1949, and is the only public institute of technology in Washington State, that provides students with the latest cutting edge skills relevant to today’s workplace. LWTech offers ten applied bachelor’s degrees, more than 40 associate degrees and 93 professional certificates, in 43 areas of study, including STEM-focused programs in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math.

Summary:
The LWTech Library strives to be a “pathway to success through exploration, discovery, and innovation.” The Adjunct Faculty Librarian will promote the library as an integral part of the campus through instruction, marketing, and liaising with students, staff, faculty, and other stakeholders. The candidate will work collaboratively with library faculty and staff to develop programming and educational initiatives, promote library services and information literacy, and communicate the value of the library. Specifically, the candidate will support a variety of diverse applied baccalaureate program needs via instruction, collection development, and other liaison duties. Additionally, this position will support OER initiatives at the college. The Adjunct Faculty Librarian is service oriented, requiring excellent social, communication, and collaboration skills. The successful candidate will have a firm knowledge of the creation, maintenance, and management of electronic databases, cataloging procedures, and integrated library systems structures.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Design, maintain, and teach information literacy curriculum to a diverse applied baccalaureate student population through multiple delivery modes (online, hybrid, classroom, and one-on-one instruction)
• Collaborate with faculty to integrate/embed information literacy into the college curriculum and assignments
• Serve as liaison to assigned academic departments, meeting with individual faculty, delivering faculty group presentations, participating in academic department meetings, providing library service delivery, and promoting library services
• Provide orientations, tours, and presentations for college community and visiting groups
• Perform high quality, professional reference services by interviewing and responding to library patrons in-person, via telephone, through email, and through the Library’s virtual reference
• Provide collection development for current and upcoming applied baccalaureate programs
• Provide local support for an integrated library system maintained by a state consortium (recently migrated to Ex Libris platforms)
• Provide technical expertise and day-to-day support for traditional and emerging library hardware and software needs for Library employees, students, and community users
• Support and promote initiatives for Open Educational Resources (OER) and copyright compliance
• Create content for and update library research guides and instructional materials, as well as the library website and social media accounts
• Develop and/or manage a variety of print and online resources and services such as tutorials, videos, screencasts, instructional modules, and library databases
• Work closely with eLearning staff to embed information and digital literacy in online instruction
• Work closely with Professional Development staff to provide trainings, workshops, and presentations in relevant areas
• Manage projects and problem-solve in an environment that requires oral and written reports, meeting discussions, and the creation of written documentation
• Assist in managing the library’s technology infrastructure (library management system, digital collections, discovery solutions, and related tools) and integration with campus systems
• Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

• MLS Degree from an ALA accredited program required
• One to three years academic library experience, preferably in a community or technical college setting
• Recent teaching experience in information literacy, OER, copyright compliance, etc.
• Knowledge of and experience with integrated library systems, cataloging software, circulation systems, and technology in libraries
• Recent experience with instructional technologies and online learning management systems (LMS/Canvas)
• Excellent written and oral communication and presentation/teaching skills
• Ability to handle multiple priorities; ability to work independently and in a team environment Ability to effectively collaborate across departments, with individuals, and small groups

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience developing and working with Open Educational Resources (OERs)
• Experience with electronic resource management and integrated library systems (Alma and Primo)
• Knowledge of database structures, creation, application, and maintenance
• Proficient with Cloud-based storage and applications (e.g., OneDrive, GoogleDocs, SharePoint)
• Knowledge of MARC and non-MARC metadata formats, standards, and schema
• Project management skills

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
Compensation & Work Schedule Placement on the faculty salary schedule is based on an individual assessment of education and experience. The salary for part time faculty contracts shall be based upon the number of credits assigned the faculty member, the type of class taught, and the rates contained in the part time faculty salary schedule currently in effect and labeled Appendix B.Step A ranges from $675.36 – $2.026.08Step B ranges from $710.74 – $2,132.22Step C ranges from $775.27 – $2,175.93Step D ranges from $795.04 – $2,385.12Step E ranges from $795.04 – $2,385.12
Working hours are 28 hours per week, Monday-Thursday 12-8pm.
BenefitsOnce part-time faculty have worked 50% full-time or more for two consecutive quarters(with LWTech or combined with other community/technical colleges), Medical, Dental, Vision, Life, Disability and other insurance benefits are provided as currently administered under Public Employees Benefits Board, State Retirement Plan and a Deferred Compensation Plan; sick leave accrues at 1 day (Prorated based on % of FTE) effective upon employment.
